Just posted the following review on TR; reproduced here for your edification.

G.L. Pease Key Largo

Predominantly dark thinly sliced and broken strips of pressed tobacco. The tin nose is rounded and earthy with the tale-tell aroma of Orientals and an underlying syrupy-nutty sweetness. Tinned rather moist, the thin slices are easily rubbed to taste and take well to a variety of pipes.

In the bowl, Key Largo burns like a dream, producing voluminous clouds of billowy smoke which are ...

I ordered a sample to try before it fades into oblivion like some of the other drug store blends have. The smell in the pouch reminds me of the lucky strikes dad smoked, sweet burley. The tobacco is light and dark, shag cut and at a good moisture level to load and light. When it comes to flavor it's predictably like its sister Carter Hall, but a little bolder and sweeter. I assume it has a topping, but it doesn't stand out, just enough to sweeten the flavor. It lights well and burned to the bottom ...

It's rare now that I smoke a new tobacco that really rings my bell. Somerset Slice not only rings it but accomanies it with singing angels!

I received a half pound from Dad last Tuesday in a trade. I jarred up a few oz's and put the remainder in a sample jar. It's semi dry and cut into long strips. It's color is dark brown and black. It's scent, sour and earthy. My overall impression is supreme quality!

As with all of my flakes I simply "roll" them into the bowl. Packing is ...

Robert Lewis Orcilla Mixture

A mixed shag cut which is predominantly of a rich milk chocolate brown color with a smattering of dirty tan and black ribbons. Not very well sorted, stems and rough cut chucks can be found throughout. The tin nose is fragrant and sweet with a very slight woody smokiness in the background. Packed moist and laden with sticky humectants, once sufficiently dried the fine cut allows ...

How can we not have a Bow-Legged Bear thread? You know, the way some of us are always looking for those stronger English and Balkan blends, you would think this one would be right up near the top. I suppose the reviews at TR lead one to believe it's a "love it, hate it" sort of blend. Or maybe it's the word "burley" in the list that scared some people off. It's been a while since I smoked it. But it was great. I am at a loss to explain why it's not on every order I make ...

wow! this is good! it's complex, its deep, its high in nicotene, wow it's good! no bite right out of the tin. it's far different from the other virginia's on the market. completely natural in taste. wow it's really good! there were moments in the bowl that were kinda like fvf, but different. one bowl and Greg Pease has redefined my idea of great virginia blends! Major home run!

Granger Rough Cut

A few months back, I purchased a large variety of pouch-size traditional American tobaccos, to sample broadly. At worst, I'd know what I was (or wasn't) missing; at best I could find an affordable standby burley, after the lamented demise of Edgeworth. Well, I found myself liking Granger with surprising enthusiasm, and wanted to attempt a summary.

A Greek poet of antiquity wrote: "The fox knows many things, but the hedgehog know one big thing." In the world of pipe tobacco, there ...

I'm not much of a reviewer, but I wanted to chime in here to write a short snippet about this great aromatic blend. As many of you know, I'm big on the oriental/latakia blends, but I've always been on the search for an aro that I could smoke in the house that a) didn't boil my tongue b) actually had flavor and c) didnt' goop up my pipe.

Boswell's Christmas Cookie fits all of these criteria... at least for me. I've never experience any bite from it and although it doesn't have a huge flavor ...

G.L. Pease Caravan

Short brown, mahogany and tan broken ribbon tossed with larger pieces of black and soft chestnut-hued leaf. The tin nose is rich, with a leathery earthiness which is slightly sweet and just the slightest bit smoky. Tinned moderately moist, it packs and takes to the match with little complaint.

I just opened my umpteenth tin of Dunhill Nightcap. This is a blend I didn't much care for when I first started having success with the pipe. Sometime a year ago last fall, I think that's when the attraction really started. Or was it a year earlier? Amazing stuff, really.

It's rich. Like a cooked chuck roast with plenty of fat. Having been seared prior to the baking. Then cooked with onions, carrots, celery. Perhaps some turnips. Too good, and too rich to partake a lot of it.

McClelland Anniversary

A mix of short dark brown, mottled, and black broken ribbons, the tin nose is rounded and sweet with a slight dark smokiness. Given the relatively short cut, it packs and burns with relative ease and is not a particularly finicky preparation.

Comprised of a mélange of matured Virginias lightly seasoned with Cyprian Latakia, in the bowl Anniversary offers a pleasant combination of ...

I'm just now getting around to writing a review of GLP's Westminster for a very good reason: I've never smoked any before now. The reason is some bizarre combination of "economic factors", and hopeful confidence that the weed would continue to be available until I could get a round tuit...by which I mean enough budgetary breathing room to treat myself to a tin. And I suppose there's a bit of the incorrigible contrarian behind my decision to spring for some at this time, now that we ...

Dunhill Elizabethan Mixture

Medium cut pale brown, dark tan, and dark chocolate to nearly black ribbons of varying length. In the tin, it offers aromas of fermenting fruit, wood, and spice. Tinned dense and moderately moist, after a bit of drying time the ribbons pack and take to the match with ease.

Soft with a silky mouthfeel, Elizabethan Mixture is comprised of a core of delicate Virginias married ...

From my review at TR:

I've now tried several bowls of this and the Three Oaks Original, in different pipes, including a simultaneous "parallel tasting." This blend is for Oriental lovers for sure. The Latakia takes last place, consistently overpowered by the Orientals, so if you're looking for a big, smoky, campfire-like LAT blast, this will disappoint.

If, on the other hand, you prefer an Oriental-forward, spicy, mellow blend with mild Latakia lurking in the background providing ...

Mottled, dark and chocolate brown broken flakes streaked with tan. The tin nose offers a bright, somewhat sharp aroma reminding of lemon preserves and nutmeg. Packed somewhat moist, the sliced broken flakes are firm when dry and can easily be rubbed out to the desired consistency.
I've gone through 3/4 of a tin of this and must say I really like this tobacco.

I was having trouble smoking it at first but that is because I wasn't smoking it quite right. It smokes best if rubbed out and dried out for at least four hours before smoking a bowl. I roll and plug a small bowl suited for flake tobacco much like the method Winslow posted in the tabacco jar or the instructions for loading flake tobacco in the Mac Baren web site.

Upon first opening the tin, the aroma reminded ...

From my review at TR:

This is my kind of smoke! Tin aroma starts off sweet as can be, with a delicious smokiness that makes you impatient to light up. Moisture is perfect, a little on the dry side compared to most, which is the way I like it. Lights easily and stays lit with very little maintenance.

This is such an interesting tobacco! The first third is what you'd expect with a blend including these ingredients - a smooth, smoky, latakia-driven flavor with sweet virginias adding support ...

Recently myself, Carlos and a couple of others here bought some well aged Bufflehead tins from a fella over on another board looking to sell off some of his stock. I think I ended up with 5 8oz Wood Ducks and 4 8ozers of Decoy. Looking through my bulks today I found that I had a couple of oz's of Wood Duck that I had stashed away in 05. Rather than crack one of the new tins I opened the jar and filled a bowl.

Dense dark brown broken flakes flecked with tan along with lighter brown streaks here and there. The tin nose is piquant yet round, with an earthy-musty spice which reminds of fermenting fruit. Tinned rather moist, the broken flakes require a bit of preparation and in this reviewer’s experience seem to smoke best when fully rubbed. As with all such preparations, however, ...

Light in body, the short finish is dry and vapid.

Benefiting from the type of attention typically due such broken ...
