What are the advantages of either? It seems to me that in the vacuum discs, the tobacco is more tightly pressed in (perhaps further melding the flavors?), and there is not as much air (perhaps ...

This is kind of a newbie question, but I was wondering if anyone has had any issues with their tobacco drying out in dry climates? I've only been smoking for a few months, but in that time I've noticed that the couple of ounces of tobacco that I had sitting out in a baggy seemed to be noticeably drier after a couple of months. I now have the larger quantities of my stuff stored in mason jars, but I've also noticed that a lot of people say that they often leave tobacco in baggies for months with ...

Grettings all.

My understanding at this point is that sugary Virginias are not responsible for tongue bite, as it is usually thought. But rather, a higher pH smoke, like Burley, is responsible for the dreaded bite, which seems to be a chemical burn of sorts. And that actually, mixing Virginia with Burley helps reduce the bite thanks to Virginia's natural sugar component.

If this is the case, would not choosing an acidic beverage to smoke with be another remedy? Especially something ...

Has anyone tried both versions of Beacon to see if there is any difference. I realize that McClelland always manufactured Beacon but being PCCA only did limited releases I was thinking there may be some quality issues with having it be a full time offering. Like they may have to use a lesser quality Virginia to keep it in production. I've only had the PCCA version so I'm curious if the newer stuff is on par.

I've decided that I would like to venture into the old tradition of rope tobacco. My finances however have been tight and I can't simply dive into it. I have read so far that G&H offer the best and most variant supply ...

I just finished a bowl of the Tobacco Barn's (a local pipe shop) Ebony Gold and I was sipping on a Dr. Pepper when I realized that the Dr. Pepper seemed to bring out the vanilla flavoring in the blend. It was rather pleasant. So, do you have a preferred drink with certain blends? Water, beer, soda, iced tea, scotch, whiskey?

I used the handy search feature and did not happen to stumble across an answer, so here it goes. If you really enjoy a certain type and would like to cellar some would it be better to buy multiple tins and store those, or to buy the large vacuum sealed amounts in the pound size and just jar them? I understand that its probably much more financially viable to go with bulk, but I must admit a large stack of similar tins is quite pleasant on the eyes. I assume the tobacco will be of the same ...

Made a funny and practical discovery recently here. I had put a 1/4 lb of tobacco in one of my airtight resealable tins (courtesy of Bed Bath and Beyond) with a moist napkin to remoisturize. It was breaking-apart dry. By accident I left it atop the clothesdryer when my wife set it to run. By the end of the cycle- completely humidified!! Total time 0:35!! I guess the heat from the dryer sped up the process. Pretty cool!

For the others on this board who are aromatic smokers, I've found that if there's a ghost lurking in a pipe from a previously smoked aromatic tobacco (but also including Latakia and others), a few bowls of Lane's 1Q seems to do the trick in getting the pipe back to being "tasteless". If anyone has other suggestions, feel free to follow up to this.

Unless I am misunderstanding what was said, my sense of ethics makes this somewhat hard to absorb - correctly or not, I've always looked on people in the pipe tobacco business as being very reputable.
