I bought a Don Carlos 2 note recently from The Pipe Rack. In the description it said that the bowl was "slightly out of round," which put the pipe in my budget. Because of the defect they put a 6-month guarantee on it against burnout. The bowl is exactly what they said, and the defect is so subtle I probably wouldn’t have noticed if they didn’t say anything. I have smoked the pipe and I am very happy with it, but I am wondering if there are any signs of pending disaster I should ...

Gentlemen,

I recently purchased two Laughing Moon pipes directly from the carver (Robert Vacher) on eBay for quite a fair price. He apparently does not have a website. Does anyone who has any of his pieces have any impressions to share? I am smoking one of the pipes I won right now, and so far am quite impressed (I did sand out the bowl coating before loading her up however). A bit of hunting turned up an old review of his work by Greg Pease, but I have not found much else. Any impressions ...

They have a "middle size" with meerschaum bowl for 60 bucks which is about what I'm looking to spend. I'm not looking for high quality. Just a decent smoker. Nowhere do they say how big "middle size" is. Anyone here who might know approximately just how small or large middle size is? (they don't list "small" ...

Hey all,

Picked up a Hardcastle prince from Tinder Box last week and wanted to share a few observations..

The best feature of this pipe is the soft vulcanite bit. Much more comfortable than my other vulcanites. I imagine that's due to the higher quality material that Dunhill (correct?) used. The bowl is by far the most shallow of any of my pipes, and I'm not sure yet if I like that or not. It's nice that I can puff down a bowlful of 1Q without leaving any dottle, but on the flip side, ...

I purchased this large Oom Paul style sitter from an estate and haven't had any luck whatsoever in trying to identify the maker. It appears to be done very well with tall straight grain and birds eye on the rim. Also has a nice brown marbled lucite stem.

It has a backwards R sitting against a B, which is similar to the Britannia logo with the exception that this one has two arches above it.

It also has ...

The big bowl has no id on it and I can only make out the letters blu on top of a clover leaf and bak under the clover leaf stamped on the shank of the bowl with the gold trim. It had a screw-type stem. I've never seen these types of bowls before and was wondering if you folks have.

Also, where can I get stems for the bowls?

Gentlemen,

For all you lovers of the good ole' corn cob, I would highly recommend looking into Walker Briar Works vulcanite 'forever stems' for MM Cobs. I have been meaning to try one for some time, and today had the chance to buy one directly from Dave at a pipe show. I have been using it all day since on a variety of my Missouri Meerschaums, and could not be more pleased.

The difference between these stems and the MM factory plastic stems is night and day. It brings a whole different ...

those 10-15 minute coffee break smokes,or do you just fill a regular sized

I have a few small meers that I use which are just the right size and I

load them in the morning and just whip them out of the case for break.

So i had to stop and think. Basically, when I get a new pipe, I just smoke the new out of it. He asked if I was worried about burning out a new pipe from consecutive smokes. I told him (hopefully I am right) that for new pipes, I don't worry about resting them too much.

So, I showed him my Rad Davis that I ...

I like the shape well enough to want to copy it, so I thought I'd grab the pipe. The hand cut stem is done pretty shabbily, and the finish on the briar is really pretty bad. Worst of all, the tenon occludes the airway a bit. All fixable by me, but your average smoker would have a loser on his hands.

The really sad thing is that out of 4 214s in the shop, ...
