I began with an old Gillette twist handle. From there I moved to disposables, to electric, and for the past four years or so I've used straight razors. Lately, though, I've fallen back on the good old Mach III. For some reason I just get the best shaves with that.

Now I have fun collecting mugs and trying out new soaps and brushes.

Okay folks i am a wet shaver, but it is not a religion, it's just electric razors irritate my skin.

But when out looking for pipes I ran across a razor that appeared interesting and appeared favorably priced in an antique store.

What i found was a "Rolls Razor" Imperial #2, with box and instructions. it appears to be a step between the straight razor and the safety razor. There was a second razor or the same style, but without the box & instructions.

Ok,

After inquiring about old razors this morning,I asked my dad and he found me a couple of his old ones. One is a brass coloured Gillette but the finish is terrible and oxidized... The other may be a winner though. It's a silver Gillette and has stampings that read:

REG US PAT OFF.

B 3

Gillette MADE IN U.S.A.

Does anyone have any idea how old this razor is or where you can buy blades for it?

Best,

Dock

Gentlemen,

Okay, after getting my dad's old Gillette DE razor (a '61 fatboy, I think) I kind of waited a while to try it out. I watched a few shaving vids of youtube... and I tried some of the techniques using a Mach 3 razor. I added a little water to my Barbasol shaving cream, shaved lightly the first time, and then re-applied the cream for a second pass in the opposite direction: I was blown away. I have a very heavy beard; there is not an electric in the world that could give me even ...

I got on Ebay and saw those cool old Gillette Fatboys, and remembered my dad having something like that. So, I called him and asked him if he still had that old silver razor that took safety blades. He wasn't sure, said he'd look around. Well, a week later, this little package arrived at my door, and lo and behold, a Gillette Fatboy! By looking on Ebay, I discovered ...

You can imagine my amazement when I won it for £12. No ...

I'd like to repeat a couple of excellent tips that our own Midnight Blues suggested....

Scrubbing Bubbles bathroom cleaner and an old toothbrush does do wonders to clean soapscum off of an old razor...

"Cutting" a brand new DE razor on a wine cork will tame down the sharpness to just the right degree.Using this tip on all of my new razors has cut down on the inital nicks that usually comes along with them...

Best,

He would'nt take anything in return for it,nor would he at least allow me to pay the shipping! Nothing! He'd just send it to me! Totally cool ...
