I came across eight tins of Dunhill Nightcap.

One sealed log of five (circa 1980) and three seperately.

Found them and picked them up for about $175.

I'm probably going to keep aging the log for a good while, I don't think I have the heart to open it up. Probably will open it on a rainy day down the road when it's even harder to come by.

Actually, English & Balkan blends not only don't keep improving with age, but peak and then decline, becoming papery and diluted tasting. As the slide has already begun (the peak is usually around 15-20 yrs), you are better off smoking it now.

Noted!

Thanks for the advice LL, I did not know that at all.

The log wasn't from Saddam's coffers unfortunately.

On a side note, I did come across some Nightcap here in Iraq though.

I asked an Iraqi friend if he knew of anywhere I could get some. I brought a picture of a tin, and two weeks later, lo and behold he had a tin for me. I proceeded to enjoy that tin ritually every few days on top of the palace I work in (Al Faw Palace, here in Baghdad). Never thought I would ever have the chance to do something like that in my life.

The log is waiting for me back in the US, and I might have to break it open in the company of some friends.

After this tour, I'll either be staying back at my former post (Ft. Lewis, WA) or moving to Ft. Gordon Georgia. Anyone in this community in either vicinity? Cool

Anthony, if you come back to Ft. Lewis let me know and we'll have to get together for a pint or a pipe. I'm in Olympia.

Sounds like a plan! I'll at least have 60-90 days stabilization @Lewis either way, so looks like we might have to do that!

By any chance do you visit with the Seattle pipe club? I emailed awhile back to the people there, and I'm going to see about meeting up with them at Smokey Joes over on the reservation. That place sounds like a good time.

Unfortunately I don't. I am a fee paying member but I've never went to a meeting. I just can't seem to get myself to make the drive after work for some reason. They seem like a great bunch of guys though.

I get down to the east side of Atlanta, GA about once a year. Fort Gordon looks to be an hour from Lawrenceville.

Then if that's the case, it looks like we'll have to arrange things if I head down to Georgia!
