Well, I'm not much at reviews, and I surely cant review like Kyle.
I was looking for something Chocolate. And heres my take.

Good ole Docwatson sent me a nice size sample of some aged,
Gawith ,Hoggarth and Sons, Bobs Chocolate Flake; Man , it smells good as I open it, it looks great and the moisture was great. I seem to taste an almost "floral", like ??flowers LOL..IDK? and I taste the Latakia. Im not a huge fan of Latakia, but as far as that goes, this tobacco would be the best Latakia blend I have tried. The first bowl didnt really do much for me . So I dried it out a little more the next time , and it was better. I have had 4 pipefuls so far, and Im still not hooked.
But , he sent plenty, so I will continue to sample this, to give it a chance to see if it grows on me. One thing I do need to say, the chocolate doesnt have the chemical taste that i get out of others, which is a plus, because that is exactly what turns me off on the others.

The others:
I ordered 2 of McClellands;

402 Chocolate cream;
which seems to have more Va, but has the same chemical taste that Boswells has.
Its good,because theres less burley in it I think, but I just dont like that "Choc flavor chemical".

105 Chocolate Mint;
this one isnt as chocolatey as the above mentioned, and thats fine, as it also doesnt have that flavoring chemical taste. So I kind of like it a bit better. The mint is there when its opened, but I dont taste much of it while smoking.

OH, then theres MY BLEND , LOL

I had taken about an oz of Boswells Pipers Pleasure, and added to it an oz of Boswells Va Slice,, I also added 3 flakes of FVF. I sealed it in a mason jar and let it sit for 2 weeks. I then pulled out the FVF flakes and put them in theyre own jar, they do smell chocolatey. The Va Slice/Pipers Pleasure, tastes better than straight B.P.P.in my opinion on account of more Va. The FVF is still sitting , sealed, for another week, to see what it does, before I try it.

All in all, I think the Bobs Choc Flake is the closest to what I am looking for, as it doesnt have the chemical flavoring taste, and its a nice flake, and not a ribbon cut type burley. I just need more time with Latakia.

BTW, Thanks Doc, again. I really do apreciatte it!

I didn't appreciate the lat in bobs choc flake the first time i smoked it, either, so i have been enjoying some English blends in search of my "latakia legs" and I am going to treat Bob's as a counterpoint to the non-aro's with a hearty dose of lat. That should accentuate the cocoa flavors.

Also, from my "foodie" tendencies, i have an appreciation for chocolate used outside the realm of dessert. My favorite appetizer of all time is the Lamb Ribs with chocolate bbq sauce from tristan in charleston, SC, and I make a cocoa dusted filet when I am feeling fancy around the holidays. I think I have my finger on what the blender of Bobs chocolate flake was trying to achieve with the lat/ cocoa combination: a more savory use.

@Dusty,
Thanks for your review and sampling of the Bobs Choc. Flake. I'm glad you got to sample it and liked your description just fine. Also, you're own chocolate blend sounds really great, and something I may mix up to try myself. I'm sure that drying it out a bit will improve the burn and flavor as well.

MacBarens Honey & Chocolate is a very pleasant chocolate aero if you are looking for another.

I've never been a chocolate buff, but good review, Dusty. Cool The side-by-side comparison was a good one.

Dusty, have you tried 4noggin's Double Fantasy? It's really pretty good. I was given a sample of it in one of my orders and I smoked it all. Very mellow with a subtle chocolate flavor. If I smoked these types of tobaccos more I would definitely order some.

Bob's has a bit of the soapy Lakeland thing, but it does seem to burn off fairly quickly.

That's a good thing IMO.

I prefer SG chocolate flake.

As always ymmv....

Suspect

Cheers,

RR

Thanks Kyle ! Very Happy Coming from you, that makes me feel good.

Doc, yep , drying it out a bit more makes a difference.

Ok, so MacBarens Honey and Chocolate, 4Noggins Double Fantasy and SG Chocolate Flake are on my list for future orders.
Ive been needing to make an order from 4noggins . As I think thats where tiltjp has those "Virginia"blends of his, that I always wanted to try.

Dangit ! LOL, I try to post a simple post, and I get sidetracked into wanting to buy more of something else.... Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes
