PostSubject: If I didn't get out of the house...   Mon Jul 16, 2012 10:48 pm

...I was going to implode.

Hiking and piping at Lakes Basin. Relaxation fueled by Ten Russians. Joined by my better half (not fond of pictures, but brought a cob pipe, too!).

We went to a really tiny, old burger drive-in on the main drag of Portola, CA before the day's end. I couldn't eat much of the stuff, but a kraut dog with mustard hit the spot.

Good day.

Cool

Beautiful spot to get out to! The only thing missing-to me-is a fishin' pole.

Awesome, awesome pics.

I'd enjoy the hike, then the solitude, then the relaxation with a pipe...finding the motivation to get back on my feet and making the return trip might be tricky, though Cool

There was no way in heck I was going to pay California $20+ for the honor of fishing in its waters for the day. If I'm not in a place for more than three days, I forgo fishing. The psychology is, if I spend that much, I'm "trapped" trying to make it worthwhile. Laughing

I can't go too long being crammed up with people. Just having them within hearing distance is too much most of the time. Laughing Luckily, with people being so lazy these days, it's very easy (in my area) to just pick a direction and leave them behind. It's too bad it isn't forever. Cool

I kind of envy the omish. Live off that land without any government overhead. Great views kyle last trip I had was 07 to big bin.

Try and live near them, or hunt on neighboring land. (Assuming you mean Amish Smile ) You won't be so appreciative.

No sweat, guys. I know some of you don't get a chance to see the Wild West, I might as well brag about it. Very Happy One should always look upon the land where they live and take a deep breath of satisfaction and smiling honor.

Oh yeah, points to Loneredtree for pointing out the Buttes... then again, he's cheating, and lives as close to them as I do. Laughing

Ya sorry bad spelling again. Not necessarily amish but that free in the wild life, native american, amish, pigmy or whatever group that lives off the land. Come zombie apocalypse they will be best off. Smile

Yeah. I get it, but we idealize all of those groups. My ex father-in-law was a farmer with Amish neighbors. It's funny as hell to see a team of horses hitched to a tractor, pulling it down the road. They can't drive the tractor. They can't own the tractor. But they can borrow your tractor (usually without asking) and use it to power other equipment. On a side note, the kids are great hockey players. No such thing as a "friendly" game to them, as my beer league team learned to its detriment. Razz

Ain't that the truth (well...I'm not a hunter, but I know exactly what you mean). On the bright side, they do make some mighty fine baked goods.

One well-deserved trip deserves another... we went back to the same location yesterday. Here's some pictures of some of the smaller interesting things that I encountered, just sitting there, reading and smoking my pipe...

Beetle taking flight off my pants leg:

Red and black dragonfly:

Jumping spider of unknown variety:

Jumping spider of unknown variety:

Watching the fish swim, the geese feed, the birds fly, and not a human (other than Zack) in sight. Cool

One of these days I'll have a good camera rather than this $50 piece of crap--though the photos do come out okay (and the macro setting is good)... Neutral
