Just curious how many of you folks have a good local shop to go to enjoy your pipe and hangout with other patrons?

Most of the shops here have a heavy focus on cigars. There is one old shop heavily focused on pipes but not much an inventory on pipe tobacco or pipes. Just seems to be in decline since the 70s.

Another shop that I regularly hang out is moving more into pipes as he has great connections with Savinelli. It is where I got my 615. He has a big selection of Savinelli pipes and is getting ready to carry decent line of pipe tobacco. I'm kind of excited about this so I don't have to drive 30 miles to JRs or order everything online and all the patrons have been my friends for years. Happy to support the little guy and he is happy to carry the tobaccos I often smoke. Win-win!

What about you guys? You have a local shop to enjoy?

Here locally only 'Discount Smoke Shop' types with Beer, Booze, and Cigarettes. These do carry OTC blends and OTC cigars, but not worth a crap for the pipe smoker.

There are a couple of good ones, but they are 70-80 miles away - in Cape Girardeau or St. Louis. Each are well worth the trip though - actually catering to the Pipe and Cigar smokers. Chairs to lounge in, samples to try, fresh coffee provided, nice atmosphere, and good conversation.

Nothing around here but lotto-cigarette-newspaper holes in the wall. You guys with B&Ms don't know how incredibly lucky you are.

I am very lucky to have the largest pipe shop in Michigan just 12 miles from me. That shop is Paul's Pipe Shop and has been in business 83 years. he has a huge selection of blends, both tinned and his own in bulk, and more pipes than you could see in a week or longer. Paul is now 99 years old and his son and daughter are in charge of things now. They have their own line of pipes and they are some of the best smokers I own. I am indeed a happy man! They have a web site that is worth a visit.

Here are a few pics from the local tobacconist, and at over 50 years old, the oldest in the history of the state of Alabama, still in operation. The atmosphere and clientele is predominantly Republican, and almost everyone is carrying at least one firearm. Laughing

Notice the custom humidor in the fourth pic, that one of the brothers made for himself to keep his cigars properly humidified.

Wow Dutch, that shop has clerks like I've not yet seen in a pipe shop!

I'm fortunate to live 24 miles from Boswells and get there with some frequency. They have two great lounges and it is a wonderful place to hang out and enjoy a pipe. JM is somewhat of a character and usually comes out to chat. He always has some bit of past pipe knowledge to share, including his somewhat rigid opinions on pipes and tobacco!

Well, actually guys, I must confess, both of those girls are cigar reps, and those pics were taken during cigar events. The short fat guy with the pistol, is the regular clerk. lol Laughing

Okay Dutch, in the 8th one from the top (3rd from bottom) the flat black pipe in front....what is it? I like that bad mamajama.

As for around my place in IL we have Baker St. which is more heavily into cigars but does have quite a few pipes.

Kai, I am not sure which production model it is, but I can tell by the pipe socks, all those pipes in that pic are Butz-Choquin's.

That pic was taken when Aaron Sisson and his crew from Uptowns Pipe Shop in Nashville TN came down and did a show. They are the exclusive US distributor for a lot of the your-a peein high grade pipes. They stock a lot of $4000-$5000 pipes, as well as run of the mill production pipes.

Here is a link to their site-

All the pipes in the 8th pic are production pipes. The 7th pic has all the high grades inside the case. A shame that the pic is not clearer, but that glass case has a lot of milage on it.
