What's all this about Gator? Didn't realize we had a man in the swamp on this mission...not that I'm complaining.

For an explanation of the Christmas Gator and what the heck a gator has to do with anything, please see the 2011 Secret Santa thread, page 11. I'll make it easy, click here for the link to the page.

It'll take a bit of reading, but the Gator set a new standard that has yet to be topped! Shocked

I'll be sure to send you the elephant foot umbrella stand if I get your name in the draw. Very Happy

lol! Watch out, Rob!

Gramps -

Love the new Avatar Art. Very Bosch. Eerie, yet warm and fuzzy. Bizzare combo, but it works! Kudos.

Thanks! The artist is Stephen Gammell, who's mostly known for his children's books. This one graced the cover of Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, a collection of folktales I adored as a kid. His illustrations were, in retrospect, pretty damn dark and weird, but as you said, there's a certain macabre warmth to his work. With Halloween coming up it seemed the perfect time to dig this out!

I googled the artist but it appears you found the only illustration he did that included a pipe. I thought if there was one there might be more. Alas. Very interesting body of work...what with there being so many bodies and all, lol.

It was very cool to see this illustration. Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, and the sequel More Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark were two of my favorite books in middle school and Jr High.

I'm pretty sure I have them in my home library somewhere, I should also dig them out for Halloween.

P&C had my munitions in stock and the order was placed before start of their business today so it should be airborne today as well and impacting the target on Friday. Looks like this months will go off without a hitch thus far.

Housekeeping:

Exactly half of the pilots have reported in re: their flights having taken off. Good show thus far.

Yeah, when Kyle noticed the avatar I told him about how they've rereleased the books these are from, but with a new, bland illustrator--a move that misses the whole point, as the art was the coolest part of the series to any kid really interested in scary stories...but then he said that since both he and I had read these as young'uns and turned out fine, I've been second-guessing my original estimation that the illustrations were harmless!

You mentioned a Bosch-influence, and I definitely see that--a shame Uncle Hieronymous was so early, otherwise I'd try to find a pipe smoker in one of his triptychs!

Definitely worth digging up for the season of the witch! There's also a third volume, by the same people, if you can find it at the library or used book store...

At this point, 15 of the total 25 flights have reported being launched successfully. Good show, gentlemen.
