Welcome to BoB and welcome to pipes from a fellow Brit.

This is indeed a great place and I learnt a great deal here when I returned to pipe smoking and I'm still learning.

eh up mate.

I've long been an anglophile and have visited your green and pleasant land at least a dozen times. Quite fond of Yorkshire myself I am. Have an old mate in the Halifax area that's like a brother to me.

Where in Yorkshire do you reside?

Cheers,

RR

Brewdude, you cause me to self reflect just a touch with your claim of being an anglophile. This is not the first time I have seen this proclamation. I am also a very big fan of Triumph Motorcycles (I currently ride a 2010 triumph Speed Triple, and plan to add an older Triumph sport tourer to the stable next summer). On my favorite Triumph forum this came up as a thread topic.

I had never considered labeling myself an anglophile (or any other label, really). But as I read BBC news whilst sipping my tea and browising websites for new Irish caps, I must admit I must fall into that catagory.

However, I had always assumed my behaviour and taste was more a result of coming from New England (I come from a long line of drunk Irish Catholic Bostonians...). My heritage is a tad more mixed than that, actually, as my ancestors come from England, Ireland and Scotland.

I do think we can be a bit confused, though, as I greatly enjoy Irish culture as well. To us it does not seem so different. but perhaps the English and Irish would disagree?

Now, back to listening to The Pogues, very loudly indeed...

Well Yorkshire is one of the best bits,Halifax is a nice place in its own special way had many a good night out there in my younger days. not too far from the historical home lands of the Washington family. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Selby

Selby eh? Well you'll be near York then. One of my most favourite cities, York. Been there many times. Great pubs, fantastic Minster, loved the streets and olde worlde feel of the Shambles (even though it's been heavily commercialised). Folk museum was top rate. They even had a very good tobacconist with a decent selection of pipe tobacco.

My heart belongs to North Yorkshire, especially the Dales. I could live there actually. You're very fortunate to live in such a lovely area.

Cheers,

RR

Welcome! I enjoy British cars (MGB) and bikes (Triumphs) and English pipes. I'm hoping to get there perhaps next summer.
