I'm disabled and have been since 96. The Dr. changed my meds 3 months ago. Now my liver function tests are so screwed up he is having it all retested and adding the hepatitis panel as well. So far no real symptoms other than extreme fatigue. Will keep y'all posted.

Thanks guys! The waiting seems to be the hardest part for me. Of course it raises some big questions for me if it's positive. Like will I be able to go sit in the hemodialysis unit with my 14 yo daughter? I know she has been vaccinated but I don't know about the other kids. Oh well, only time will tell. Thanks again

Hope all is well. When I did a coffee harvest trip to Nicaragua I did the initial vaccination but never followed up on the secondary. Not planning on any jungle trips anytime soon and certainly nothing in the future for overseas.

I will tell an amusing story if Hepatitis could ever be amusing . . .

I was a regular at a local tobac shop in another state and we had a pretty tight knit regular crowd. One of the folks stopped coming in for awhile and then boom he showed up. I inquired where has he been? He replied they had him on experimental meds and he was pretty out of it but they finally changed his meds for the better. I asked him what the experimental meds were for? He said Hepatitis-C. I said that I was sorry to hear that and if I may, how does one contract Hep-C? He just grinned from ear to ear and said, "Lifestyle. Don't feel bad for me, I have done it all. If I made a + / - column on my life I am way ahead of the game."

Apparently he contracted it from "Pulp Fiction" moment with someone bringing him back on O.D. in the 80's with a dirty needle. Oy vey!

Anyway, viral hepatitis or any hepatits is no joke. Hope the test comes back negative and you are in good health!

Stay strong brother!

Thanks Geoff. Yeah the whole point of the meds I'm on is to wipe out my immune system. To keep my body from attacking my joints. So the first thing they have to check is viral. If that's clear then the meds are too much for my liver. This stuff is so bad it takes 2 years to get it out of your system. So now it's just a waiting game to see where I go from here.

Hep C is hard to get and isn't exchanged through casual contact. Some people find out they have had it for decades and their spouse tests negative. It has to be blood to blood contact then there has to be a high enough viral load.

Hepatitis is an general term for liver inflammation and can be caused by meds. Tylenol based pain meds are a really bad culprit. You may be taking meds with multiple sources of Tylenol. I have a friend that that happened to. Enzymes can be out of whack if you are also over weight or drank heavily before a blood test.

I had a scare about 10 years ago. I had a general blood test and a Nurse Ratchet called me and told me I had hepatitis and to go get a hep test. I've had that looooooong wait for news. Turns out I was fat and my liver was "fatty". I lost weight and haven't had a problem.

Try not to stress yourself out. Easy to say, I know. Be glad it was caught!

Thanks you guys. I don't take any otc meds to be sure I don't get extra tylenol. I'm fairly certain it's these chemotherapy class drugs I'm on screwing with my liver. Given that I don't really have much of a choice. I can take them and get around, chase my kids and have some kind of life. Or I can do without and be bed ridden within 6 months. Been there a couple of times thanks to insurance issues. Never want to be there again! The encouraging words are greatly appreciated brothers.

Thanks again
Jim
