This Aldo Velani pipe was a kind gift from Paul Harris. Once again, thank you very much Paul, it was a very thoughtful and kind gift.

Why I have no idea but this pipe has a coloured varnish on the stummel, see picture below:

As you can see it was a ghastly 'orange' tinge in the varnish, bad enough they put varnish on a pipe stummel in the first place, but an orange tinge, oh please. In accordance with Paul's suggestion I removed the varnish and waxed the stummel.

I stripped off the original varnish using wet & dry sandpaper then fine sanded the stummel to remove the scratches the wet & dry made. Next I gave it a light dousing of a dark red/brown stain, this was immediately washed off using some ISO, just lightly removed the surface stain but leaving enough to leave a nice rich brown tone.

This is how it looks now:

Methinks Aldo likes orange. I call it bright tan. I have a nice AV billiard sitter with a diamond shank. It seems to prefer bright Virginias. Like it a lot, but the bright tan takes a little getting used to.

You did a very nice job on yours.

Thank you all for the kind comments, I can't really take any real credit for doing much, it was just a sand down, re-stain and wax, but thank you all the same.
