As durable as briar? Taste? Other attributes?

I'm skeptical of the oft quoted claim that strawberry wood tastes somehow
"sweeter" than briar. I think the name is influencing this.
Apparently, it is part of the Erica arborea family, but physically lighter, so, maybe less dense?
It does tend to look great after sandblasting, though.

Quality Briar has a Paolo Becker, great sandblast! Big pipe. I love his work. But then there's Rolando Negoita. I was at his site just now. He sometimes uses a great deal of geometric analysis in developing his pipes, a freeform arranging of shape and line and finding a pipe within that? This is my impression from his site. It seems a much more abstract and fluid method than what other pipe makers might use.

Strawberries do not grow on trees. Where does this wood really come from? I am already skeptical.
