Aside from Peterson, who else makes military mounts?

I'm looking to broaden my horizons, but really like military mounts.

Yeah, been looking over those.

Do any of the US hand made pipe guys spin silver? I'm thinking I might need to go to a custom pipe.

I regret I don't know if any US hand-made guys do them regularly, but I bet if you approach one and make a request for a custom with a military mount the story would have a happy ending.

Savinelli makes them too, and I have several in the Punto Oro line. Ashton has, but I don't know if current production includes them. Nording makes some as well.

Otherwise you might look for "spigots" as well. A spigot mount pipe is a military mount with the stem end capped in silver to match the domed cap on the shank. Very very pretty, and also usually more expensive than straight up military mount beauty.

I love those army mounts!

My lone spigot or Military stem pipe, a 2 Star Ferndown Tudor Root. It smokes magnificently and while a tad heavy, it is balanced well.

Not a current maker I believe but if you keep an eye out you'll see Kaywoody military mounts pop up on eBay or elsewhere. Granted, if it's not Buy It Now you'll probably be bidding against me but if you win I'll cry, congratulate you and move on. Razz

That aside, I've got two of those now and if you find them in good enough condition I think they look fantastic. Even a little roughed up would make a good beater pipe. I've been getting hour plus smokes out of them despite their small, light size and I feel they're solid pipes that are well worth it. I do have my eyes on a Peterson military mount or spigot 606 though. Hope to have that soon.

I've also seen estate Comoy, Barling and Northern Briar military mount pipes.

Joe,
Man, I too have seen estate Comoy and Barling military mounts and their grace has been phenomonal. How I ache to find some too. Good thing there's searching time.

But there is something very delightful about the elongated grace old Comoys and old Barlings could be, and how their military mounts even followed and met the standard.

Preppy,
There was this old Comoy pot military mount last fall...I wanted it so bad. Its lines flowed, it was masculine, minimal and utilitarian and I was outbid...Broke my heart. I have a habit of saving pictures of pipes I find beautiful, so at least I have something to look at later and cry over. Laughing

I think you summed all those descriptors up pretty well in one word; grace.

Army mount pipes are the most visually appealing to me by far. Especially the Pete's Silver Spigots. The Deluxe system pipes are a very close second.

If I went custom, I'm thinking it would just be a Pete copy...

This Comoy's Blue Riband military stem Prince is on Ebay now, it is truly elegant! I imagine it will go $250 or better.

You know, since acquiring that silver spigot Ferndown, I have had more than one emails from ladies who would like to become better acquainted with me. It must be the pipe.
