Sorry if I offended.

No problem with the pipe.

No offense taken, just trying to make the situation clear.

I think there's one key word that scaring folks off - "filter." Just a guess though.

Could be; I know I dislike filters myself. The Brigham insert, on the other hand, doesn't bother me, but that's me

I voted. I'll get one. As the brother says, it's a good excuse to try out a Brigham

I enjoy the Sav Balsa filters for certain blends. So the hard maple insert/filter doesn't scare me off in the least bit.

Yep, but I think you'd want to use them with the inserts in place. Here is a link that describes their rock maple insert: http://www.brighampipes.com/2006%20Update.htm

They are removeable, cleanable, and reuseable.

Brigham is willing to work with us to make an affordable POY happen for us this year. Peterson was looked at but a hundred dollar Pete would come up to at least 175. The rock maple inserts aren't like normal filters so try to look at them a little closer before just shrugging it off as a "filter pipe". Tinsky's did have a WOW factor that everyone loved, but in the end how many brothers have them in their pipe collection now? This will be a piece of the BoB brotherhood here that people can always cherish and enjoy, and it is a pipe that most here can afford to grab to be a part of the fun this year.

I'm down for 2 or 3 of them personally.

I looked at that filter, it seems more like a wooden liner for for the shank and stem, the way it is designed, it might even make a smoother transition between the two making for a dryer smoke

That's exactly what it is. When you're smoking the pipe, you don't notice it at all (unlike filters)

I appreciate Brigham for working with Bob, and Kaiser for the leg work. I hope this goes forward. I'll skip this pipe, however, as I would any system pipe. Good luck.

Regarding filter pipes:

It's not secret I'm not into them. I was recently gifted a 9mm filter pipe that smokes okay. It isn't brilliant, I have to smoke it a very certain way or else it's swamp city. So, unless it's free, I don't do filter pipes.

On the other hand, Brigham's setup with the rock maple insert (more of a liner, really) is something I want to try. I like trying things, because that's the only way I know if I dig something or not. From the design, it seems pretty innocuous, more of a gimmick to make Brigham stand out than anything. I doubt beyond a keen cutaway and a registered trademark they'd smoke any differently than other pipes.

Regarding cost and pedigree:

I was also in the crowd that couldn't afford the Tinsky pipes in 2012. I also saw them in person, and I'm kind of glad I don't have the 2012, because the pipe was too big. Pretty, but I probably wouldn't have smoked it too much.

The Brigham option is practical, affordable, attractive and best of all: available to us.

Sorry if this option doesn't suit the fellas able to rub a few more pennies together, but maybe, if this tradition continues, this could be how it is: even year--artisan pipes...odd year--workin' man pipes. That way aesthetics and pocketbooks are pleased and disappointed equally. Laughing

I wanted Peterson, but if a $100 Pete turns into a $175 Pete because "BoB" is hammered into the shank, well... No

Cool

Shape 29- Chinook! You can put me down for one. Two if we can have both the smooth and the blasted finishes. I just watched the filter video for the first time and now I'm way curious!

Just voted for the 29 chinook. Nice looking pipe and seems a pretty good price for a club pipe and the rock maple insert feature is pretty cool.

I think a lot of casual browsers are confusing this thread with the 2012 POY that was up there forever. Maybe a post in the Pipe Rack linked to this thread or something. Just a thought...

I've been thinking about trying out the Brigham system for awhile now. What better reason could there be than a BoB POY!

Sort of missed this thread, voted on the 29-chinook. Although I gotta admit a couple of the shapes look good. Nice leg work Kaiser.
