Lesath...I knew I could count on you. Thank you!

So...this is the other shoe hitting the floor *...

WHERE IS EVERYBODY? I mean...I throw out some tom fool incendiary proclamation and it's like..."No splash, Capt'n!?! "** This joint has been like a ghost town. I can usually get a rise out of Lesath. He's dependable. We're like twin sons of different mothers.

<<And I'll just take time out for a sec here to wish all you moms out there a praiseworthy Happy Mother's Day! Um..."Happy Mother's Day">>

Anyhoo...let's show some SPARK out there! What IS this, a nursing home? (Ooh. That's a scary thought.) I feel like Don Rickles *** workin' a crowd of Zombies.

Feel free to heckle me as your will dictates. At least it would be SOMETHING!

* ref: "waiting for the other shoe to drop"

** ref: to Peter Pan, wherein...when Wendy is prodded off the end of the plank and falls like a stone toward the water, with the pirate crew waiting to hear her splash, none is heard (because she's been scooped up in mid fall by Peter, our hero) Smee leans over toward Hook and says..."No splash, Capt'n! ".

This is actually a pretty classic line as it not only sets up the dramatic action to reveal that Peter has NOT died from having his medicine poisoned, but completes a set of recurring jokes that have been running throughout the dialog. This is even more rewarding in this, our own, it is hoped, reality...as it falls in the wake (See...a ship reference...pretty good, right? Are you getting any of this?) of the 'sound of the other shoe dropping thing. If I had one more it would form a perfect triad, but I'm lazy and I have to make Mother's Day Waffles.

*** ref: to famous stand-up comic of the 70's & 80's whose schtik was insulting the crowd, the host, celebrities not there, etc. but had the obligatory' heart of gold'.

Man, this is a lot of work, but you're worth it!

Love you guys!

Be sure and come back...I'm here all week.

That was one long day, but I'll crawl in here on my walker just to keep this thread hanging on by a thread. Poor Blackhorse, all alone trying to keep the home fires burning. Severe battle fatigue, pure and simple.

Well, there's that. Me? Personally, I think it's substance abuse. I found a great outlet in MA for dyed, stabilized, burl wood. I ordered a bunch and have been re working the handle of a knife that should have turned out better the first time, but never really feel right about it. So I cut the old one off (a $15 piece of Red Coolibah Burl all the way from Oz) and have been working on the new one...using a block of stabilized Black Box Elder Burl. The stuff is loaded with plastic (acrylic) and even though I wear a good mask while grinding it on the belt, when I hand sand it I don't. And I'm sure I inhale plastic dust and all sorts of other volatiles in the process. I'll pin it on that and leave it be.

BTW the Black Box Elder Burl is crazy cool. If you go to the link below and scroll down to photo 9...the block I'm using is K9F. Yeah, $18 isn't cheap...but you cannot believe what I've seen this stuff go for. And anyway, this is a knife for my own use, and I want what I want. Plus, I saved 2/3 of the Coolibah piece I cut off and if I add some spacers I can easily re use it. So we're good.

Wow, BH! That's some cool stuff. I've bookmarked that site. I can see doing tons of business with him looking for shank extension material on pipes!

Then look at the sections for pen blanks.

http://www.burlsource.com/burls-pen-blanks.html

He (Robert) apparently got a big shipment in just days ago so now is the time to pick your poison. On the pen blanks, the minimum is 5, you can mix-n-match pieces, unlike the other sections where the piece you see is the piece you're buying...these are representative only and range between $5 and $10.

Then there's the fly reel seats which are more, buy the one in the photo, buy one buy a hundred, and whatever.

http://www.burlsource.com/burls-fly-reel-seats.html

I would never do this for what I think of as a 'normal' online vendor, but Robert, the owner there has provided excellent, personable service with a range of products no other vendor comes even close to...and for prices that are half of what I've seen on other vendor sites. In other words, it's unique, in the best way possible.

Glad to see you found a good way to use that juniper. That came off of Grizzly Butte in Central Oregon. My step dad has had that stuff laying around for quite a while (I think he said he cut it about 20 years ago). He has a portable mill and mills the juniper up there from time to time. A few years ago he milled a bunch for paneling and siding on the extension he and my mom are putting on their house.

You ever want some more, just give a holler.

I wish I sent you some stuff, but alas it was not me. Things are super tight right now, and I have lots of stuff to make for the fundraiser, which is why I am out for a few months Sad

I love your work though brother. When I get a few extra bucks I would like to have you make me a knife for my plug with black palm if you think it would be strong enough

I'd love to do a plug knife for you. Jus gimme the word.

I do so hate to work with Black Death (Palm) though. I've tried before and can't get it right. I know you need really sharp tools, and mine are, but it hates me. Then if I try to use a belt sander on it...it splits like crazy. #@!! (sorry about the strong language)

I do think that using stabilized wood instead of natural Palm would be a great way to control all the problems. So we might be good with it after all.

A plug knife, in many ways, is like a patch knife...a lot of knife in a small package. It allows me to use a smaller piece of wood for the thing and that cuts the same cost in half. Check out the Black Palm from Laos, both long cut and diagonal. Scroll down on the linked page and let me know what you think. Of course I can always use the regular stuff. If I see a piece of the pen blank wood I like I can include it in an order. 4 for me...1 for you.

Umm, yeah. Targeting computer may be slightly off. Pilots exercise best judgement.

A guy crawls out from under his rock, the next thing you know someone is getting bombed. I'd best dig out some black palm. Target slated for destruction.
