PostSubject: Hardly Embarrassing    Tue Jul 09, 2013 12:10 pm

Embarrassing only for what I paid - $4.99.  I've been losing out on pipes I'd like to own -- Parker, Charatan, Barling and the like.  The one I did get ended up tasting of dishwasher detergent and got sent back.  That's the second set of return shipping charges I've contributed with no pipe to show.

So, I am on e-whatever-you-call-it looking at estates, I have to quit that, and saw a Mastercraft. All I know about them is that Bing smoked them.  Ba Ba Ba Bo OK, my skat singing isn't as dulcet.  But it did say Algerian Briar and it was clean -- top to bottom.  As long as Monbla didn't store ketchup in it, I'll follow his knowledge when he mention that the Charatan I ended up sending back had ALGERIAN BRIAR -- ok, he didn't go with all caps but said it was a grand thing.  Not sure $4.99 of it is a great thing but always the optimist

Meet my Zulu

A kind brother surprised me randomly with a Master Craft billiard with very unique rustication. It suits me perfectly, and I have been feeding it a regular diet of GLP Robusto--it travels well, is tough as nails, and while it won't win any back-patting from the "artisan" or "Dunnie" crowd, my grins while smoking speak for itself. MC is hit or miss, as I understand, but this one hits--hope yours does as well, Ken.

Cool

For sure. Every time I break in a new shop pipe, I always put a thick coating of ketchup in the chamber. It's amazing as a tool for breaking in Algerian Briar. Laughing

Nice Zulu Ken, I have 2 Mastercraft's in my collection, and enjoy smoking them both without any issues. Congrats on a nice addition, especially at that price point! Cool

Really sucks when things wont quit going wrong, sorry you've been having a time of it with pipes you'd like to own, that Zulu looks the part though and for $4.99, what a great price, hope this one proves to be a keeper.

That's a nice looking pipe. I picked up a Mastercraft rusticated billiard for a couple of bucks more than you paid. It has turned out to be a great little smoker. It's dedicated to GH Bosun Cut Plug. I hope yours turns out to smoke as well as mine. If it does I'm sure you'll be delighted and for that price it's a steal.

Can't beat a $5 pipe!

If you get another foul-smelling pipe, just do a ream and salt/alcohol soak, that does the trick 95% of the time.
