PostSubject: Anyone into Formula 1?   Sun Sep 22, 2013 8:25 pm

It's been 47 years since John Frankenheimer's Grand Prix, still the gold standard in auto racing movies. Ron Howard's Rush is due for general release on September 27. All reviews seem good, even among the F1 crowd, including that of  Niki Lauda, one of the main characters depicted. The question for me is not whether to see it, but how many times. I grew up within two hours driving distance of Watkins Glen, NY,  when the U.S. Grand Prix was held there every year. I was too young to know how cool such drivers as Jim Clark, Graham Hill, Jochen Rindt, and others were at the time. I was there when Francois Cevert died, killed in qualifying. I have an abiding interest in this sport, formed during its "golden era." I look forward to seeing this movie. Anyone else?

(I was going to post this under sports, but the sports listed under the rubric all involved balls. Then again...)

I like Formula I and wish they'd make it easier to watch the races. Sometimes I tape 'em, but usually forget. Granted, F-1 races tend to be high-speed processions, but at least the drivers have to turn, brake, shift gears and accelerate. Love to watch the starts with the volume UP:-) Love it when they show the tach as a car slows for a hairpin and then accelerates to nearly 200 heading down a straight.

I'm rediscovering F1 and I try to watch the races or at least DVR them when I get a chance and remember. They are more interesting than NASCRAP for sure. I'm jealous that you got to be at Watkins Glen when they were running the US Grand Prix there. I was up at the Glen a few years ago and drove the full course during an HPDE (High Performance Driver Education) event. That is a wonderful track in a beautiful area of the country.

I'm looking forward to seeing Rush. Several folks from my car club got to see it at a promotional pre-screening and it was well reviewed by them.

I'm looking forward to Rush. I enjoy F1 and have been watching since I was a kid and Wide World of Sports would show clips of a few races to now every practice qualifying and race. Lately I've been watching Sky's feed on the computer.
I thought this was interesting from Sky's Pre Race Sunday. Shocked

I'm an F1 fan, although Vettels dominance this year is getting boring.
I've been to Indy twice (awesome) but that is my only F1 live experience.
My brother used to live close to the Glen, so we've taken in the Historic GP many times, including the F1 and Can-Am Reunions.
Having said that, I've been pumped about Howards "Rush" all year. It's only a week away from the premiere!

Wow, what an experience that will be. I'd be happy to get a ride in one of those two-seaters!

Wow, those GTP cars would also be unbelievable to drive. I'll look forward to your summary and pix. I assume they would shoot video for you, if not you have to get a Go-Pro or similar.
