The pipe world's version of a hacker or counterfieter...

I remember seeing that particular thread somewhere. Maybe it was there. The person who did the restoration and restamping has definitely got game. He could probably (or does) do well with more legitimate pursuits. Perhaps he is a maker (?)

Not to pick sides here but, First I've bought many pipes that the seller stated where "UNMARKED" only to find them marked, some were real finds too. I purchased these pipes because most of the time I recognized them without seeing the mark. Secondly, the seller of the "NO-NAME" pipe failed to show a photo of the underside of the shank, so how does one know that it truly wasn't what it sold as the second time. Granted the band is missing, this could be explained easily.
It was a repair band and the restorer repaired the shank without the need of the band. The band had a crack in it so he removed it or the band may have been damaged while restoring. Just wanted to point these things out. I think this maybe be people jumping too quickly to conclusions from what I have seen. And NO I'm not the number one buyer or the number two buyer of this pipe.

It's not an abstract proposition you can bullshit with "what if."

There is no way Taylor ever made those pipes.

None. They aren't Taylor's work.

Not to argue with you but, how does one know?
I don't claim to know everything I just see how there can be a mistake.

Bill Taylor's pipes were Dunhill School creations. See if you've ever seen one of either with a routed surface like those :

Smooths & sandblasts.

Because one has not been photoed and archived would not necessarily mean it was never made. I don't tend to believe everything I read or hear and don't always take things at face value. If I did there are many things here I would take for granted that aren't true.
All I did was point out some discrepancies that may have been over looked. I own a Don Carlos that I've never seen one like before but, the first owner bought it brand new, so because I've never seen another doesn't mean it was never made. I may be wrong but, until I see concrete proof I'm not likely to take it for granted.
That's all I'm asking for, how does one know for sure?
And I think your comment using the word "BS" was uncalled for. My reply to your thread was not intended to make disclaimers of anything that was said, just to point out there may be another side to it.
