ok I have a question for you mens and ladies, one of you graciously bombed me with a baggie of a shaggy black substance back in July, I really liked it I searched and the only black shag I could find was McClellands 221b series, so I went out bought a tin and unless the stuff I was gifted with had many years of age on it, and changed considerably, I don't think The McClellands was the rights stuff
If whom ever it was could shoot me a clue I would be much appreciative
Thanks

Honetsly it was kind of hard to describe, but it was delicious, it was sweet taste, not in a citrus or hay like way , but something odd but good, if there was a topping it may have been a wine or a brandy, it smoked nicely
It was pretty Shaggy and really dark black, the flavor was not of the lakeland variety or anything like that, all I know is If I can find it I would definitely keep a tin around and if it is McClellands Black shag with some age to it I want to start aging some cause It was awesome...LOL

You might want to post a call for help in the Tobacco section. We have aome aro experts here.

Sure doesn't sound like Black Shag though.

Hiya Harry,

I knew I bombed somebody with a sample of McClelland's Black Shag last summer (which my handwriting led you to list as "Black Stag"!), and looking back through the July thread, you were definitely the target I nailed. That batch was indeed a couple of years old, at least...but never trying it fresh myself, I couldn't speculate on how much it changes with time.

Now, among the other goodies I sent you there was also a bag of Douwe Egbert's Aromatic, which is a dark, shag cut tobacco...That particular bag came from a tin that was around thirty years old when I cracked it last year. Sweet is definitely the word, but not overwhelmingly so--I usually hate aros, but actually found the age had mellowed that blend nicely--it smelled much stronger than it tasted, too.

I found my tin on fleabay, and picked it up out of curiousity, since I love Douwe Egbert coffee and the tobacco line is now long defunct...but there are still tins floating around there: http://www.ebay.com/itm/3-Douwe-Egberts-House-Blend-Aromatic-Tins-Sealed-Collectable-/161186766295?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item25877addd7

Hope this helps, and all the best!

It definitely helps! Thanks Gramps! I am pretty sure it was marked McClellands so I will just let the tin I have age and check it out again! Thanks!
