Now look here chaps... I'm going sausage side on a special mission to Poland next week and will be leaving at first light tomorrow. Lets have no jolly japes or high jinx in the Mess whilst I'm away. If all goes to plan I'll be back in Blighty in a week or so. My avatar and signature are a clue.  Question  So it's, contact, chocks away, pip pip and tally ho...  Wink

Well, that just goes to show you never know what's around the corner. Two hours after posting this thread we had one of those phone calls that you know are an inevitable part of life but you dread all the same; my wife's mother (67) was rushed into hospital where scans revealed a 'mass' (tumour?) on the base of her brain. As I write, I'm at home with the children who are getting creative with get well cards and my good lady has sped off to be at her side for some MRI scans. Life is going to be upside down for a while, but fingers crossed, here's hoping her condition is treatable. So, after months of planning, mission aborted. Not sure if anyone guessed from the clues above, but I was off to a memorial service at Stalag Luft III, Sagan which was the scene of the fabled Great Escape exactly seventy years ago at mid-night tonight. I'm sure you guys can remember the outcome of the escape...

Hi Stick,
My thoughts and best wishes go to you and your family.
Modern medecine has come on immensely since MRI meant More Rum Intake.
I'm sure she's in the best of hands.
Sorry you had to miss the memorial service, those things are important but pale into insignificance when compared to your family.

All the Best

I'm a bit hazy on the details. I think I've only seen George Lucas's "improved" version:

In all seriousness, Mr. Stick, best wishes to you and your family.

Thanks BS.

Just had it confirmed; tumour the size of a tangerine on the base of her brain. Major op needed. Maintenance of existing function bleak. Brothers, every day that we have our health, 3 square meals and a roof over our heads, is a day to celebrate...
