If this is an old topic let me know...but I was just wondering if Missouri Meerschaum was the only maker of decent quality cobs in the world. Anyone know of any others out there...that makes a good cob that is obtainable...not speaking historically, etc.

Be sure to let us know how it smokes, and how well it lasts

Anybody heard anything about the MM Bulldog lately? Last I heard they needed a specific amount of harvest of some specific kind of cob and it was a drought year and the harvest didn't come in strongly enough.

These are vital, critical issues gentlemen and I suggest you take them with the seriousness they obviously require!

So, um, anyway...I've got my summer Burleys in hand...Storm Front (of course)...Uhle's Puff Daddy Trio, Crushed White & Perfection Plug blends...Wessex Burley Slices...C&D Exhausted Rooster. I just need some Solani Aged Burley Flake and I'll be good.

Those cobs look nice. No mention of soaking the bowls in a clay/plaster mix as MM does. I assume they do something to them, or they'd burn out pretty fast.

Last I heard about the bulldog/radio pipe, was that until they get a good crop we're just out of luck. It is apparently on their short list of shapes to bring back though. Sometimes you luck out and find old ones on the "bay" most of them need a fair bit of work to get them smoking again but well worth the effort .

Hope this helps.

I always thought smoking a Cob was child's play. As I get older and wiser I bought a few and figured I would try it out. What an amazing smoker, works amazing

I think MM is the only decent producer of Corn Cob pipes these days. The company has come out with a new pipe called a Mark Twain. They are available from "Pipes and Cigars", mine should be here in the next couple of days. The bowl is Dublin shaped.

Ooh! A Dublin! Sweet!

Yeah, a Bulldog Cob would be cool...but for me, a Dublin us equally cool.

Looks to be an excellent size, etc. I have a couple of Walker's Forever Stems and a bunch of backup stems, ete. on hand in my MM drawer...so both the straight and bent that are now on the way will find a comphy home.

Stinger - Thanks for the heads up on this one!
Another one of the great things about this site!

You are welcome, glad to be of assistance.  I truly enjoy MM pipes and have done so for too many years to mention.  Some styles made in the 60's and 70's were extremely good smoking pipes.  I hope the same is true for the Mark Twain, especially with a replacement saddle bit from Norwood's Pipe Repair.  He does really great work at reasonable prices, get credit where credit is due.
