PostSubject: so how was your day?   Tue Aug 12, 2014 4:45 pm

It's registration time as well as for pre-semester meetings. So, I am into the office in the mornings. I decided to load up a pipe, go get an early sub for lunch, and then walk and smoke a pipe before eating.

I'm stopped at a red light when the car pulling up behind me lost her breaks. She tried to swerve, but sideswipped/rearended me. More damage to her her big SUV than to me. I thought it was drivable to my usual shop, but it turns out the rear tire is slightly out of center, possibly with a slight damage to the axle and maybe the frame. (I could drive it the 1/2 mile to the shop, but they said it was really unsafe to drive much further.)

We'll see what the 'authorized' repair shop has to say about it. As a 2001, it might not take too much for them to decide to total it if the frame and axle really are at all bent. If it's just the tire, they will hopefully repair the other damage, although I be out $100 no matter what (of course the other driver has no current insurence)

As for me, I seem to be ok, if a bit shaken now that the excitment/immediate worry has worn off. I just got back from my walk; the pipe (PPP in a Pete barrel) was excellent!

Could have been a lot worse DrT with you in hospital, whiplash, broken bones, etc. That you were able to walk away from it and only suffer a damaged car is something to be thankful of. Even though it sucks having to deal with the prospect of the Ins adjusters and the costs associated with everything.

Seriously, glad you're OK. And that the pipes are too!

 silent

Cheers,

RR

The pipe is fine; fortunately I wasn't smoking it at the time!

Oh no, that is horrible news, so very pleased you were not injured Doc, I haven't owned a car for a very long time due to financial constraints but I remember far too many events similar to this to comfortably recall clearly, my last event costing me the use of my left leg which is pretty much useless to me know, mine was a drunk driver smashing into the rear end of my people carrier and resulting in my being tossed out of the vehicle into head on traffic where I was hit by a motorcycle and my left leg was broken in 4 places. Thankfully you were not injured, for this remember to thank the fates for those Ladies really know their stuff, take care of yourself Buddy for the aftershock can be more difficult to deal with than one might suspect, my thoughts and prayers are with you my friend.

Thanks for the good thoughts everyone! fortunately this was a pretty low-speed accident, and all were wearing seatbelts.

Perhaps the biggest fight will be if my wife will let me buy a new car, or if I have to go used.  Very Happy We'll see what happens

Did you at least file a police report? You may find later that the uninsured driver owns a home, has liquid assets, possesses other means of compensating you any out of pocket expenses not covered by your insurance.

My day? Started at midnight thirty and worked til 3:15 this afternoon. Tired, sore, dirty.

Your day was worse  Mad

I didn't file one, a very nice police officer did, and I did hear (and agree with) what he was told by the other driver.

It's wise counsel always to file or have filed a police report. I learned that the hard way a few years back.

According to the body shop, the car will likely be totaled out, but the insurance person is 'out of office' until Wednesday, so no firm decision before then. Rolling Eyes Trying to figure out what car there is in stock around here that I would want to drive scratch

True; it has taken a lot to convince the wife to go along with an upgrade. i can only say that whatever it is, it won't be a 'smart car!'

New car, so back to car payments for 4 years!  I've also been bombed by 11 lawyers so far, in case I was injured (even though the accident report -- included in most of the mailings -- stated I was not).  The Scion xD is about 8 inches longer than the 2 door tracker.  I was going to get a Chevy Spark, but my wife insisted that, although a bit larger than the tracker, it was too small.

Now I just have to figure out how the dang thing works! (little things, like how to access the gas cap and open the hatchback!)

It's not the notices about a quarter sent that bugs me about it, but the thick envelopes filled with elaborate presentations the other sent -- what a waste!

Good looking car you got there "T". I'm sure you get all the controls sorted soon. Can't say I'm surprised by the lawyers, they're worse than vultures.

You know how you could really get them where it hurts, reply to the attorneys with a picture of the new car and tell them the attorney you chose was so sure of a large settlement that he gave you the car as a down payment on your guaranteed payday  Twisted Evil
