Best movie I've seen in a long, long time.  Friggin' intense, man.  In limited release.

I'd read about it, but that was the first time seeing the trailer. That looks terrific!

Agreed, I really enjoyed it and the ending.

My wife didn't enjoy it as much and really didn't want to watch it after the beginning of the movie. Our daughters had a somewhat maniacal middle school band director that hit a little too close to home.

When my oldest came home crying a few times and wanted to quit the band. I went into the school and had a little chat with this jerk. I invited him into the uniform room, and shut the door. I asked if she was misbehaving, or acting up in class. His answer was "no". I said if she came home crying again, and wanted to quit the band, my next discussion was going to be a lot less friendly and outside school grounds. I told him I had invested in a flute and now a Saxaphone (from her previous school). He said he understood and we had no further problems with that daughter. On the second daughter, we were then in charge of the uniform program and spent a lot of time with this guy, who was still an ass-hat. We caught him manhandling a kid in an empty band room and went to the principal. He had tenure or the teachers union on his side and they didn't do anything. A year later, he was fired, so perhaps that led to his dismissal. Both daughters endured him for three years of middle school band then had great experiences at the High School level.

I am with Riff Raff on this one. I dealt with and absolute A-hole of an instructor playing in a big band in college. And while this guy didn't throw chairs or threaten physical harm, he absolutely ruined the psyche of several musicians I knew who were trying their best to master arrangements and become better musicians. Unlike Riff Raff's daughter's instructor, mine was some how tenured and richly rewarded for his employ despite all his shenanigans.

No need to relive what I went through watching Whiplash. Yeah, I was that drummer. affraid Razz
