So, an apology chaps and chapettes for my lack of presence on the BoB.  I've been a busy boy recently, jobs interviews, trips over seas and a day to celebrate too.  Here's some pics...

The TV Tower in Berlin.  An impressive piece of East German architecture.

Me delivering a presentation on the late and great 'Jimmy' James.  One of the most prolific of the allied escapers in WWII, it is widely believed that Steve McQueen's character 'Hilts' was modelled on Jimmy.  Jimmy was one of the last men out of 'Harry' during the Great Escape from Stalag Luft III.  He was captured and by a pure stroke of luck was not one of the fifty executed by the Gestapo.  Instead he was placed into Sachsenhassen where he decided to escape again.  The chap with the red rucsac doesn't know it yet, but he's stood on the exact exit point of Jimmy's tunnel that he used to successfully escape from Sachsenhaussen.

Congratulations! Wonderful news.

But can I comment on something wholly insignificant? Well, here goes. I have not graduated from any higher education myself but have clearly been exposed to images of graduations and degrees being received. I have seen several graduation garments and have some idea of some styles but the style of yours strikes my understanding as unique and exceptional. I like how it's open in the front and you can see your jacket sleeves. Plus the color and style work great. I would much prefer to look like you there on my big day than in one that's closed in front and has those long widening sleeves. You know, the full wizard look. Clearly these type of achievements outweigh these concerns by far but your graduation attire was a most handsome happenstance imo. Sorry I'm weird. lol!

Not weird at all! I didn't fully understand either until the day of my grad when I learnt that the students had different colour robes on.

Each educational institution has its own traditions and colours, for example you'll have no doubt seen the mortar board hats. My institution was the Open University (OU) in Blighty that specialises in part time distance courses that enables you to study alongside a full time job. The colours of the OU for grad purposes are a mixture of blues and golds and instead of a mortar board we wore a hood. As I discovered on the day, those graduating with a doctorate wore a royal blue robe, those with a Masters like myself wore the pale blue, and those with an undergraduate degree wore navy blue. The colour of the hoods defined your chosen subject. As my MA was in education my hood was navy blue with a gold trim and interior. Neat eh?!

Lol. Funny though, as I have been looking. 3 years more of study! However, like Thomas, my priority is to now find another job...
