PostSubject: Tony Lama MADE IN CHINA???????????????   Fri Oct 09, 2015 2:39 pm

What the @&%$#! is this country coming to? I've been purchasing Tony Lama and Justin boots since I was old enough to put them on by myself and they were made in Texas. I now find out, rather late I might add, that there made in fricken China now. This will be my LAST pair I ever buy. I reckon I'll have to find someone that has the same quality of boot that still has the guts to make them in America and not choke the Chinese chicken so top speak. I also pleasantly was surprised to find out that Justin, another fine maker of boots bought Tony Lama it's only a shame that they see fit to do business with the Chinese. Now there's two boot makers gone to hell in a hand basket. Well, thank God I have a few of the old ones left for dress purposes. And if you think I'm talking bad now, you should seen the note I sent Tony Lama/Justin. I explained to them how they shamed the name of Tony Lama and everyone that had anything to do with them, so on and so on. American Big Business can kiss my rosy behind on the way down to hell.
And that's my rant for the Day. Wink

Ron,
Tony Lama's haven't been made in Texas since the late '60s when they moved all boot production across the border to Mexico. The finished boots were shipped back to El Paso where they were boxed up and shipped out to retailers from the US. If you look carefully on the inside of the boots you WILL find a stamp that says "Made in Mexico" I'm surprised they would go all the way to China for production though, what with shipping and all as compared to the costs from Mexico! Oh well, that's the 21st century !! Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

That I knew sir but, at least they were made by folks who knew what a boot even looked like.
Chinese made Western boots? That's an Oxymoron if there ever was one not to mention the Chinese have little to no respect for us which puts them on my "Bite Me list.

Sadly your so right sir.
Thankfully I only paid $85 for'em but, it doesn't make me feel any better about them or wearing them.
Think I'll slip on a pair of old ones that were still made in America...........and yes I still have some that old and they still look next to new. Wink

I just went and checked mine, (which once were my Dad's), they are stamped Made in the USA on the inside. Granted, I don't know the age of them, but I would think they are much newer than the 60s. They still look good.

I just received a email back from Justin boots who now owns Tony Lama and they said that they do farm out some boot styles to China but, not all and to look for the US flag next to the name which identifies it as being still made in the U.S.. So, this really doesn't change my feelings on the boots I just purchased but, being that Justin and Tony Lamas are the only boots that have ever fit me properly and were as comfortable as clouds on my feet I'll certainly give them another try but, to ONLY purchase ones manufactured here in the U.S./ Mexico. It's still a sad state of affairs for me and I'll never understand the chase for the all might buck. No Email below

Good Afternoon Ron,

Thank you for contacting Justin Brands.

We are very proud of our three manufacturing facilities located here in the United States, which give us the ability to boast of being one of the largest domestic footwear manufacturers currently in business. Unfortunately, our facilities do not have the capabilities to manufacture all boot constructions, and we source some to non-domestic locations. We demand a high level of quality and performance from all of our products, regardless of where they are manufactured.

If you pull up a style you are interested in and it has an American Flag in the upper right hand corner by the boot, this is a Handcrafted in America product.

We appreciate your continued support of our brand.

Ron,
Sounds like you need to take a road trip south to San Antonio to Luchese. I used to wear Justin Ropers and some Lamas till I got a pair made in San Antonio back in the late '80s and I've never worn anything but Luchese's since. Their custom made to measure boots are not all that more than the off the shelf but the fit is substantialy different and once you get a pair made to measure you will NEVER go back to off the shelf !! And ALL of Lucheses's boots are made in Mexico and Texas !! JMHO Twisted Evil Twisted Evil This was the style of the last pair I had made:

Hippies up in Washington might sell more boots if they'd tell me what they cost. "If you have to ask you can't afford them".... Well maybe maybe not but I ain't asking so you ain't selling.

They run 3-5 hundred. At least they did last time I checked. They don't advertise prices because they want you to contact a dealer and get properly sized. I don't think they'll sell em to you until you've been sized by a dealer. They are big, heavy, seriously badass boots. When I was hauling hay, feed and tack years ago they were the cool boots to have among the cowboy and firefighter crowd in the Sierras. Not because they were stylish, but because they were extremely rugged and comfortable once broken in (which was a while). I eyeballed and handled a bunch of em, and lusted after them but they were too much for me at the time. Three times the cost of the Justins I usually wore. Now I wear Redwings, which are nice enough, but in concrete all boots get destroyed regardless of cost. It's just a matter of how quickly.

Last year when I was at the Stock Show over in Ft. Worth I met some of the cowboys from up Oregon and Washington way and they ALL were wearing those lace-up Packer style boots with short "chink" style chaps that ended at the knee. Was the first time I'd seen lace-up cowboy boots !! Twisted Evil I'll stick with the pull on style we wear down here !! Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

That's not bad... They still ought to advertise it.

Spent the greater part of my career hauling chemicals or horses.
I understand destroying boots. You can destroy $50 pairs every 6 months or $200 pairs every other year. It all works out the same in the end, just one fits and one doesn't.

Monbla, Sadly I've owned Lucheses's and they were right nice LOOK'EN boots but, worn out in less then a year and I don't mean just the soles either. One of the saddest made boots I've ever own sadly to say.
I wear boots that are not only good look'en but, they've got to withstand every day use, work and play. Granted nowadays they just have to withstand me around the house, grounds and shop but, I tend to give them a good beating still. Tony's and Justin's did that for me. The only other boot I've come across to satisfy me like that was Texas brand boots but, I haven't seen a pair of those since I was in my 20's.

And as far as you guys and the Handmade Custom boots, well, if I could afford them I wouldn't have anything to complain about now. Wink

I wear my Luchese's on a daily basis and it's been 5 years since I've been to San Antonio to get another pair. I've never worn or bought their off the shelf boots so can't say how they wear. I just know what I have had made. The oldest pair I have that I still wear is almost 20 years old now. JME Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

Had me a righteous pair of boots I got back in '75 or so. Damned if I can remember the maker, but they lasted me up until a few years ago when I finally decided I wasn't going to wear them any more.

Used to wear them regularly back in the 80's when I was still riding motorcycles. Very comfortable.

Wore them maybe once in the mid 90's at a brewery function and they still fit me like a glove. And then they sat. So decided to donate them to the local clothes charity.

Plenty of wear left on the soles. And the insides were in all but perfect shape. Someone got a good deal.

They don't make them like that anymore I guess. Sure wish I could remember the manufacturer!

scratch

Cheers,

RR

I still have my jump boots from many moons ago. Sure, they were issued, and sure, they were heavy. But nothing could stand the test of time like them. Don't know where they were made, but they look just like my father's, so the style hadn't changed much, just regular Government Issue black leather lace-ups.....

Oh, and they were one pair free with each year of service, so the price was right enough...........

Wouldn't mind a pretty pair of Schnitzel Kickers like y'all got for dancing though...........

Ha! Yep, my daily wear is my old black Navy boots that I've had for years. I swear you can't wear them out. And yeah, VERY heavy, but that's okay, nowadays they're the only exercise I get at times. Laughing

Cheers,

Yeah BD, it seems all the quality has gone out of America nowadays. Dan Post use to be a good boot but, now there like wear'en a pair of cardboard boxes on your feet. I reckon there's several other makers still mak'en boots in the US but, there styles never interested me like Frye and few others. It's getting so I'll have to either go bare or wear the Chinese or Japanese made crap, oh hell! I don't leave the house much anyway. Wink
