We'll as a few of you know I had surgery last Thursday to patch the hole in my mouth made by my dentist. Surgery went fine and was recovering well, then Saturday something felt "off". Washed my mouth out with salt water and felt a bit of moisture in my nose.  Made a vacuum in my mouth and got a rush of air through the site. Called the Dr. he says come in Tuesday and we'll put in more stitches. Go in and open my mouth he looks in and he just says "daaaaaaamn". The flap he stiched in had died. He removed all the dead tissue and cleaned things up in there. Now it has to heal for 6 weeks before an oral surgeon friend of his will look at it. Meanwhile I'm on lots of antibiotics and still no smoking as I can't get a draw from any of my pipes.

That's a drag Jim, sorry to hear. So the hole opened up into your sinus passage? Holy frijoles!

(pun intended, but not to diminish the seriousness).

Shocked

Cheers,

RR

Lmao no offense taken Rande. Yes the hole connects the roof of my mouth to my sinuses. It was about 8-9mm before the surgery and he opened that up to 10-11 mm now so it's a significant hole. It's made for a really long 8 months with no pipes either.

Nasty business. Being very familiar at how hollow it sounds on that side I won't say "man, I hate it for you", but I do.

Cripes Jim. That's far from ideal. Mate, take good care of yourself over the next 6 weeks to aid the healing process. You'll need some good foundations for the next op to succeed.

Thinking of you Jim.

Regards,

Stick.

Jim, this sounds like a situation where the dentist removed a tooth and the root was so long it extended all the way to just under your sinus chamber. And then when the tooth was removed it caused enough trauma to open up that passageway. I've read/heard about this. Is this the case here? Sounds ghastly!

Suspect

Rande, that's usually the case. Mine wasn't quite that. The section of bone between the roots was ripped out when he pulled the tooth. It was actually rather grusom looking. Just a big old block of bone with the root still embedded in it.

Really looking forward to my first puffs once it heals up

Hang in there Jim! Sounds like you are going through the wringer, and not being able to take comfort in a pipe really makes it much worse. I'll be thinking of you and praying for a speedy recovery.
