Took a break this morning and noticed the client's house had a mighty ant trail working it's way up a corner of their house. The owner poked at some with his finger and it went right through the siding. I was able to cut out a 3 by 6 foot chunk of cedar siding with a utility knife. I then looked inside and saw that three roof joists were pushing through the ceiling sheet rock.

We decided to address the issue. 10 hours later, using car jacks and 2x4s to support the roof, I replaced the rotted wall and some studs. New insulation and sheetrock await my installation on the morrow. It seemed like the right thing to do. I'm pretty handy with hot mud, so I should have it buttoned up by tomorrow night. Glad of my tools I brought, and fair weather. As far as the ants, they relocated to somewhere else. Now showered and fed, I think I will forgo the sunset and fall down for the evening. Sigh. A wizard's work is never done it seems.......

Now enjoying a pipe of Incestuous blend in a clay tavern pipe.

And a good time was had by all.

Had the honor of a drop in today...from the Wiz himself! Got to spend a couple hours yapping over some brews and a bowl. What a great guy. Well, he raises Pugs, so what's not to like.

Thanks Ozzie, glad you were able to find my digs.

The pleasure was mine and I was honoured to be able to wrestle with Watson, and enjoyed your hospitality immensely. Well worth the trip.....

I agree. Sounds like a fine time. I am pretty much a loner around here - no one seems to do anything interesting. no pipe smoking buddy, no wine drinking buddy - having my own vineyard and i also brew serious porters and English ales as well as Pale ales. also like the Glenfiddich or Bunnahabhain. Just me and the dog and the chickens. Tiny homestead. So ----- it sounds like a great time!

Sometimes i wish i had  friend - in the way to hang and enjoy life a bit.  My wife is sick and doesn't enjoy wine and is too busy with her job and my college wild daughter.   I am reclusive - but a Bro to hang a bit that is Solid is just hard to find or else just do not exist in my neck of the woods. Very Happy

Well, since we don't know where you are, it's hard to argue that. I think you'll find most all of us here to be solid though.

That's fine, under the punky soft outside there is a heart of gold....

Went to the graduation ceremony tonight for my youngest child, and amidst the clamour and cacophony the last wild notes of wild voices rang, like Roland's horn. Along the way there and back, a city of camps lined the streets, the empty lots and condemned residential properties. I have never seen so many homeless people. The Land of The Free. Sigh. I am glad of the effort my children apply to their future, and wish them the best. My work here as a model of social adeptness has run it's course, and soon it will be time to go beyond the pale and relinquish my influence, follow the darma and become Shamana..... I am close now.

A few more days and I will have to return to the mountain top, my home in the hardwood forests of anonymity, where I am only known by my given title by the indigenous people of the Ozarks. There I will rest until needed again. I know when the call comes, and it is time, I will again come forth and call upon the magic of the Great Tapestry, and play the threads.

Perhaps Merlin was right, that looney romantic. The time of Men is now, and there is little room for magic. Religions are becoming a science, and science a philosophy. Grace is all but lost, found occasionally in small pockets of humanity, yet still flourishing in nature. He eventually returned to the wilds, as I must.

The Oracle will only say soon.............

Tomorrow holds a good day of digging. The weekend, I will lead a half dozen folks to the Deschutes river and teach them to fish it. Tuesday I will meet with my father, the old wizard needs to tell me something, or so he says. He traveled far to see me here, so I will concede.

Very deep there Ozzie. Got the bit about your youngest and the homeless but not quite sure I get all the rest of that though. But hope your fishing expedition is fruitful.

Fishing - now there's something I can understand!

I'm sure I was rambling on a bit. Many personal inside jokes on my part in reflection of the post. Sorry about that Randy.

Today proved to be the end of my project. My clients are ecstatic with the work, and are already conspiring to re-aquire me within six months to "create" a stone central fireplace in the middle of their house. Sounds like fun to me. I have been so focused on forest resources I have drifted a bit from playing with their foundations. Being a bit of a rock hound, I find the next project a refreshing change.

Fishing this weekend. Teaching the art of fly fishing to three people out of 8. I will be busy. Maybe I shouldn't say I'm fishing after all, eh?lol!

Talked to a friend of mine from Utah tonight. Missed him on the way out. As a bishop in the Mormanland church, he is an interesting fellow, and weighted down with an inordinate amount of doctrine. It sounds burdensome to him tonight. I will no doubt spend an evening or two with his family on my trip home. It generally proves to be an interesting layover. Curiously entertaining philosophy he has.... I will have to let him vent. Sounds like he needs it.

I was going to say, last pipe of the night, but it seems it is the first pipe of the day, is almost the last of some 2007 Yenidji Supreme, in a clay tavern pipe.

Ahh so......

Just got everyone back where they belong after the fishing trip. It surprised me that I got to fish myself.

One client showed up late and got lost in Dufer. As the cell service is non existent in the canyon, I had to leave the party and get to pavement so I could call him. Met him at the post office there and led him to the rest of the group. Both days produced good numbers of fish, though nothing over five pounds. Still. A good time was had by all, the environment was comfortable, and for the most part spirits were good. Next time, more food, less moonshine.

A couple more days here and then it's back east I must drift. Never seems to be enough time on my trips. I am already compiling a list of the next doors I have to open on the next trip.

Sigh......

Yes, yes it is.... I was looking forward to having more free time, my false start cost me more than money, to be sure. Missed opportunities tend to haunt me at times. Next time for sure.!

On the morrow sunrise, I engage my reciprocal course, and return to Utah to complete my list of 'honey-do's" for my buddy there. Once the place is ship shape it'll be time for the exodus from the West, and return from whense I came, until next time, Land of the Pacific Rim!

Fare thee well, Ozzie. It was great grippin' and grinnin' with you.

All you gents and sundry out there...if Ozzie is a fair representation of the typical BoB member...then we be just fine. Of course, there's nothing typical about him at all except perhaps his character. But then, that's the most important thing.

Good luck, bro.

Huzzah! cheers Huzzah! cheers Huzzah! cheers

May the winds be at your back, the tides flow ever so gently in your direction, and each and every sunrise bring sweet smells of serendipity to your days ahead on the long white line as you wind inexorably to your destination.

Go gently and with much love and perseverance as the spirit moves you. And remember, there's no place like home..........

Cheers,

RR

Thursday, the 16th of June.

Hanging out in the Les Schwab parking lot enjoying a pipe of Vintage Syrian while they fix a slow leak in the front left tire. A cute little icon on the dash lit up and told me. Crazy new fangled rig this truck...

My friend last night was a bit melancholy when I arrived. Cancer is a bitch, and the treatments are worse. After a while he was sobbing uncontrollably, so I sat down with him and held him while he cried. Sometimes you just need a good hug and a good cry, right? We talked until the sky began to herald the day, I put him to bed as his wife started her day. My list of honey-do's is being ammended as I sit here. I will run the family errands and my own in town, then back to Huntsville. Ah yes, another beautiful day in Paradise.....

Very distressing to hear of your mate's cancer. Hope he can get the appropriate treatments and lick it or at least put it into submission. I lost a good friend to the big "C" a year or so ago and it came on quite quickly and he went down just as fast!

Ya, Les Schwab is the bomb for making flats round. No appointment, no problem, no charge. In-and-out in no time flat (pun intended).

Hope the rest of your journey is a pleasant one.

Cheers,

RR
