H'm, the description says it was made in 1903 "Alfred Dunhill London by the order of Prince of Wales". But the plaque actually is just the usual royal warrant for a Prince of Wales, which they could display on just about anything. Since Dunhill didn't open their NY store until 1921, the Prince of Wales in question is the later Edward VIII, not the Edward of the Edwardian era (Edward VII 1901-1910, so Edward wasn't the Prince of Wales in 1903, his son the later George V was). I hope no one too rich and stupid falls for it

Strange. The link no longer brings up the item. I was going to point out this guy's other items for sale, some rather bizarre, "from an estate in Beverly Hills." I won't attempt or touch a description of that cane, not with a ten-foot pole.

And nice detective work, Dr. T. I was going to make an offer of $250 for the thing, but now a reconsideration may be in order.

Well, since the seller claimed there were only two, offer him the second one for 1/2 price! Maybe he believes his own nonsense Very Happy

First, "good on ya'" Dr.T for the fine detective work. Might point out that the sellers description of the top drawer is incorrect Twisted Evil Those cedar-lined compartments were for various sized cigars that the user planned to smoke that day or in the next few days. I also question the claim that DH made only two of these chests. Are there DH records from 1903 showing this? And who bought the other chest? Methinks there may be bullsheet flying thru the air on this one. All this commotion over a piddly quarter-million dollar cigar chest Razz Razz Razz cheers FTRPLT
