I've been on a very long run of crunchy peanut butter, grape jam, and 6" flour tortillas (the fluffier, thicker type; not the thin, flakey type). I keep forgetting to grab cold pickles to roll into them. One of the finest culinary combos I've ever experienced is peanut butter and dill pickles.* It's better with honey than jam, but I'll do either.

*like potato chips + yellow mustard

OK, you've piqued my curiosity. It sounds horrific, but will have to try it. Don't want to be held liable for contempt prior to investigation.

Used to eat PB and sliced dill pickles frequently as a kid. Great combo, don't knock it till you've tried it.

Sadly these days I try and stay away from high sodium stuff like dill pickles due to hypertension. And salt-free PB is pretty good once you get used to it!

Cheers,

PB& preserves on a whole wheat wrap. Now I have to give the dill pickle version a try. Thanks Zeno for the recommendation.

I neglected to mention that the cold, crisp dill pickle variety is a better marriage than the heat-cured sort. You know, the one you find in the refrigerated section rather than on a shelf in the room temp aisle.

Yes this. Used to buy a jar of Claussen Dills/week. Always crunchy and yummy. Sadly they have too much sodium for me anymore!  Neutral

Sounded like an absolutely horrible combination but, like Briar Beagle, didn't want to be accused of knocking it till I tried it.  Must admit I found it surprisingly good.  Peanut butter and crunchy dills, who would have thunk it?  afro

Bacon and eggs. Ok, ok. Sometimes it's sausage and eggs. Coffee every day except before Doc' appointments.

The closest I come to eating the same thing every day is fresh fruit and yogurt (or some kind of cultured milk, like filmjölk or kefir) for breakfast. It’s not every day, but typically about five days per week.

I cut up two or three different kinds of fruit, usually picked from the back yard garden, depending on what's in season. Right now we have strawberries, blueberries, and Ana apples, but at various other times we have figs, Fuyu persimmons, Moro blood oranges, Dancy tangerines, peaches, boysenberries, cherries, Fuji and Gala apples.

I guess that's one good thing about living in Southern Commiefornia; stuff grows year-round. I supplement with store-bought fruits as needed.

I top the fruit with home made yogurt, filmjölk, or kefir, chopped pecans, cinnamon, and a few dashes of nutmeg. Yummm!

I drink some kind of tea every day: red tea (commonly known as “black tea”), green tea, white tea, oolong, pu-erh...there are hundreds of kinds of tea (Camellia sinensis)...thousands when you add all the different cultivars...not to mention herbal teas.

I also drink black coffee—not every day, but most days. Typically I alternate between French roast and what I call frou-frou (flavored) coffee. Sprouts Farmers Market has an excellent organic English Toffee whole bean coffee. I prefer to grind whole beans.

I’m a firm believer in variety, especially where food is concerned. I learned long ago that eating the same food day after day (for me, anyway; YMMV) is an excellent way to develop food allergies. But that’s not advice; everyone’s different.

We've been following the Paleo diet since February and I've lost about 20 lbs. on it. One of my daily favorites would be bananas. I think their probably the most portable and agreeable snacks for me personally.

I know, I'm weird, I have always enjoyed oatmeal. When prepared properly. So, now my cholesterol is high due to a new med I'm on, now eating steel cut oatmeal with flaxseed on a daily basis. With any type of fresh berries. Oatmeal at its best with fresh 🍑 peaches 🍑.

What's weird about that? I eat oats ~3 to 5 days per week.

Nobody else in my family enjoys fresh Oatmeal or even steel cut. Only one friend back in NY that I know of eats Oatmeal.
Guess EVERYONE else is weird lol!

14 family members sat round our dining table today eating a traditional English Sunday roast, this time beef, veg, Yorkshire puds, roast spuds, gravy, and Coleman's English mustard. Splendid!

Stick, your traditional dinner sounds absolutely delicious!!

But in all honesty if I would eat like that now a days I might not last the month... 5) 5) 5)

Back in the 80's while living Europe I had the pleasure of enjoying Yorkshire pudding. 'Twas a traditional contest where many families participated with a family recipe during the holiday season. Boy do I miss those days!

Well, yeah...no news there. Of course, that doesn't mean you and I are not weird. But as far as I can tell, eating oatmeal doesn't make a person weird. Now, if you were to put the oatmeal in your pants...then yeah, I'd say that makes you weird.

BTW, steel cut is OK, but for me the real treat is thick rolled oats...but they have to be done right. The "Cooking Directions" are always wrong; they use way too much water, and to cook the oats way too long. The result is that they come out gooey and slimy and with a sloppy oat-gravy mess and it's just...blecchh!!!

I like 'em light and fluffy — not dry, but definitely not soupy or pasty or stuck together in an amorphous mass. I like 'em thick and chewy, where I get to taste the oats. Then, I add fruit, or orange honey, or pure maple syrup, or puréed garlic with habañero sauce. (See if you can tell which one of those is a lie! It's easy to play, and best of all, it's free!!!)

It's simplicity itself to make 'em right. I just put boiling water on the oats (the amount depends on how wet you want them; I use just enough to cover them), and then let it sit in a covered bowl until the oats absorb all the water. By the time that happens, the oatmeal has cooled enough to eat it — not too hot, and not too cold...just right! It's kind of a Goldilocks thang.

But in the summer, I skip the boiling water. I just mix the oats in a bowl with muesli and some dried fruit (raisins, cherries, cranberries, blueberries) or fresh fruit in season. Then I add fresh soy milk and/or cashew milk (I can't do cow's milk, but that would work too), and let it sit until the mix absorbs enough liquid to be easily chewable. YUMM!!

Vito, as for me I enjoy any type of cooked oats, always have. Especially with fresh fruits and even flaxseed. The Summer season is basically a quick type of Oatmeal for breakfast or lunch. It's the colder weather where I really get into slow cooking oats, very similar to the way I make risotto. I cook the rolled oats as if it were risotto, never dry. Slowly add just enough water while mixing and the end result will be a creamy custard like finish. Of course at times I add some local homemade honey or pure maple syrup as a bonus.
Guess you know what I'll be making tomorrow morning  cheers

I've always had a passion for cooking and in the 80's I owned a restaurant in Europe and had the pleasure of working alongside a Three Michelin Star Chef Marc Meneau. It was an amazing learning experience!!

I've never understood why there's such a thing as "quick" oats. Regular rolled oats cook just as fast in a microwave, once you have the exact timing down, and have a much better consistency. I've eaten oats with various things thrown in it for breakfast for years, due mostly to laziness. It's easy to fix. Steel-cut is a p.i.t.a. (My preferred breakfast would be fresh-caught trout with bacon, 'taters, and buttered rye toast, but that's in an ideal world.)

What do I eat, or drink, every day? OJ. I guzzle it by the half-gallon. I don't do soft drinks, i.e. soda.
