So what do you do with your empty tins?

Me, I try and re-purpose them for holding misc screws, nuts, bolts, etc on my workbench. I try not to throw them out if I can help it. I've given a lot of them away for those with similar purposes. They seem too useful to just throw away.

And you?

Cheers,

RR

I tried sav'en them at one time but, it got to the point I just had no use for most of'em so one day I took a box of about 30 of'em and tossed'em in the trash but, I did keep a few just because they were the older tins and a couple do hold small parts in the shop.

When I started smoking they replaced Altoid tins for some of my small electronics projects, and like Carlos said ashtrays. I don't even own an actual ashtray just lots of tins with ash in them, when they fill up I throw them out.

Most of them are made into sewing or knitting kits. Some of the small rectangular ones make good tobacco travel tins. The rest hold bits and fasteners. Oh! Some make nice little candle tins too. Very Happy

I did the same at first - then I ran out of bits and pieces that didn't already have a home and started tossing the old tins. Seems like a bit of a waste, but the again I don't really have the space (or interest) in holding on to a bunch of old tins that aren't serving a purpose.

Recycle, Unless they're really cool looking. Then I might re-purpose one or two.

Here you go Rande, here's an idea. I posted a pic of a shaving travel kit in a SJF tin, but I'm blowed if I can find it!

Very easy to do old bean. I had some left over 4mm depron foam sheet that was too 'dinked' to use for aero modelling, and an old fleece jacket that I cut the back out of. I cut the foam to create the correct size compartments and lined it all with the material. Et voila! The tin is pretty bomb proof too meaning that my razor is well protected during transit.

Let me know how you get on!

Stick, thanks for your recommendation!! I have all the materials, also a bunch of old time razors I use often. Will be making one that also holds 4 razors. BRILLIANT IDEA, practical and looks like it was made for your razor with that tight fit cheers cheers

I try to recycle them through new usage. It could be to hold some bulk tobacco I am ready to smoke. Or to hold a pouch of tobacco I have opened.
One of my mates back in Victoria, B.C. has a Tiki bar. When I was his neighbor I provided him with quite the sampling of empty tins for his guests' visual pleasure.

Smallish rectangular tobacco tins can be repurposed as a day's smoking kit.  I glue Stick a striking surface from a kitchen match Box inside the lid. Inside goes a supply of wooden matches, a pipe tool, and a couple artfully bent cleaners. Perfect pocket size. Older and rare boxes are kinda neat for this use.

Kevin, that's what I do with the round tins that seal well. Great for storing tobacco for a few days. Your gluing a match striker is another good idea cheers cheers

Lone -- Glad you like the idea. I've glue sticked the striker strip on the inside of the lid and on the bottom of the box. Inside the lid protects it in wet weather. On the bottom of the box is convenient in dry weather.
