| Today is a day that we give thanks, and recognize the service and sacrifice of those among us that served in the armed forces for us, and our country. Truth be told, we should be giving thanks every day. Thank you! _________________ "Never turn your back on a Breen". |

| For my comrades I am sorry I didn't bring home, To those who may not my actions condone, Looking back on the policies I've defended, And the freedoms I swore to uphold, To the people's lives I had a hand in upending,
A thousand glasses raised is but a drop in the bucket of tears My eyes have produced for the lost innocence of years Lost to the tyrants of avarice and greed, Paved with the lives of those impoverished and in need
The glory of war is lost on those who dance between the rounds And to those who are left to cultivate the grounds Of the players who move us like objects upon a playing field Who's dreams of greed and avarice have yet to be revealed
We who served thank you for this recognition day But somewhere deep inside, we wish our job was done today.......

This poem captures the conflict that all soldiers feel within and the angst we feel for our buddies and brothers that are never going to revel in the touch of their loved ones again. All that performed their duty, so honorably, have their crosses to bear and sometimes the burden breaks down their bodies. However it's their spirit that we must band together and support because if that is broken then the duty they performed so gallantly was in vain. Freedom demands that this must not be allowed to happen. Our enduring pain is part of the price paid for enduring freedom. AJ |
