On a wooden stem you can leave it round or flatten it out. Whichever suits your eye really. As to a button I don't know if that would hold up to most folks. Seems like it would chip off fairly easy. When I carve out a stem for a cob I tend to flatten them out at the end just due to the diameter of the stem. Oh and that's a dandy looking pipe you've made Travis. I'm sure someone will be quite happy with it. The one you made me is still smoking like a champ!

Travis, question-

Why are you using polyethylene? That to me is a finish that seals the pores of the wood and doesn't allow the wood to breath.

Yes, some manufacturers use acrylic as a finish (same as poly to me). And it achieves the same results - that being a gloss finish while sealing the pores of the wood. And that for me is a recipe for finish bubbling and blisters depending on how hot the smoker stokes his bowl.

I personally avoid those kind of finishes, yet recognise others have no problem with them. Just wanted to throw that in for consideration.

Cheers,

RR

It's just what I had and I wanted the shine. I thought the Walls where thick enought to not get any bubbles but, if some one gets the pipe from me and it bubbles I will repair it for free that's how sure I am that it won't bubble.
