So, one of my desired pipes for a long time has been a Pre-Republic Peterson 999. I've never cared for Petersons at all, but their Pre-Republic shapes always struck me as better in quality by far. Over the years, I've seen a few come and go, always out of my price range (a recent one sold for $560 on eBay). I've actually considered it a pipe I'd never obtain but always desire. Then, a close friend of mine comes along and tells me he has a 999 Pre-Republic Peterson he's willing to give me. Well, here it is:

I can safely say I'll never own another Peterson.

Never say never. Some are irresistible. When Petes are good, they're good. That's one of them.

If there's a pipe amongst all the stuff in Plato's Cave I'm betting it's a Pete 999. Or possibly an s80. Looks great, perfect size, sinuous and slightly chunky, but not too overtly designy. Hard to improve on this one.
