And while that seems to be the current state of things my bets are on another tobacco group picking up the Dunnie line. Too much history to be lost here as well as long time customers, and a solid product line.

Just a hunch, mind...... Wink

Cheers,

RR

Hope so. Just placed an order for a pound of EMP last night.

I found it to be mind boggling personally. It's one of the biggest names in the world. I know it probably won't be gone forever, but it disappeared for years before.

It's funny, because dunhill doesn't make dunhill now anyway. It's made by orlick, isn't it? Still my favorite line of tobaccos though

It would make sense that Orlick decides to make match versions of these blends under a different name. Of course supposedly, at least the way i understand it, they can't use the same recipie so it makes me wonder just how different they will be. I have smoked 965 and NIghtcap almost exclusively for the last couple years so I'm just starting now, after hearing the news, to expand my horizons. Any and all recommendations to blends like 965 and NIghtcap would be greatly appreciated as, like i said, i just started branching out.

Thanks.

Red Rapparee is pretty yummy. Sweeter, but still plenty of Latakia.

Under the new regs they cannot make "match" versions and keep them in production passed 2018 without spending a lot of money to get them cleared by the FDA. I think it would be too cost prohibitive for them, especially since Dunhill has looked at it and does not deem it to be a good enough money maker for them.

I think that russ ouellette from p&c still makes his dunhill match blends that he started making when they went off the market originally. May be worth trying them if he does. I don't know if they are good, I betcha Jim Inks tried some of them though. In which case, you should go ask the wizard himself lol.

Good to know.  I am gonna check TR and see if reviews are posted

Edit: I checked and the two I saw on there did not have reviews listed back to '07 or later, so unfortunately I think the matches are kaput as well. I might have read it wrong though.

I was under the impression dunhill disappeared for a bit before 07', and he made the blends shortly thereafter. Maybe not though. I don't know how you would find out aside from calling P&C and asking them.

I think quiete nights may be better than night cap, it is however a thick flake as opposed to ribbon.

I know. That's why I have 4lb in the cellar. And, it's still easy enough to find for now. The big tin is like 40$, so not too bad

I actually just got another big tin of plum pudding today. That one, and potlatch are both outstanding English/ Balkan mixtures.

If potlatch is being compared to plum pudding I need to get on that! Jev, I think you're the third or fourth person that I've heard recommend it.

And I think Quiet Nights just may be the best Tobacco I've ever smoked!

It's a lighter bodied version of plum pudding to my mind. Maybe a little more cav in it, and it's not pressed to marry it all together. Close in taste, but easier to work with on the go.

Sounds like a good ride into work kind of smoke. Never had a SPC ribbon... hopefully more ribbon and less chunks. That's the one thing I like about Quiet Nights, once you rub out that Flake it's actually more ribbon than any of the other GLP "ribbons." Smoking Blackpoint now and while I like it, I hate that chunky twiggy cut C&D always has.

SJF! Splendid!

I can't see Dunhill disappearing either. It'll be worth something to someone.
