Looks very yummy Wiz and that tin is handsome. Let us know how it compares to their other red Virginia flakes please as I'm tempted to get some but if it's similar to more available baccies, I'll go with them.

Cheers

Tim

I enjoy all of the various Red Virgina offerings I've smoked and hope this is a good one for you.

First I've heard of this, and being a McC ginny ho and a lover of CC in general this sounds right in my wheelhouse. Please do let us know what you think Ozzie.

10 tins sounds like a good number to sock away too!

Well, 5 are being put away. One will be opened upon receipt, one is going to the medicine woman who bought a pipe from me, one to a neighbor who loves the C Cheer, one to my son and one for a Random Act of Kindness.....

I will post a review, though I fear I am not as eloquent as Jim... tongue

I hope these tins are around long enough to snatch a few, they sure disappeared quickly.

This was tinned just prior to, and released at, the Chicago show, from what I know. I have no idea if it was released before august 2016 on a smaller scale, but one would think so based on the current state of rules regarding new pipe tobacco blends. I spoke with Mary McNiel and their intention was to have a tobacco available much like Christmas Cheer, but could be produced on a continuing basis without the restriction to specific crop years. As we all know, Christmas Cheer was limited to production with a specific crop year, and the ingredients varied year to year. This allowed them to celebrate their 40th anniversary, but also have a high quality red VA that would not be limited by FDA restrictions on introducing new pipe tobacco blends. Kind of confusing the way I said it, but I think you probably understand what I'm getting at

I grabbed three tins at the Chicago show. I asked Mary about the character of the blend, and when she started to describe it, I mentioned #27. She said, yes it is along those lines.

I guess I'm not following the logic here. If it's a previously un-released brand then it would run afoul of the FDA regs, no matter if the individual components were used before the deeming date. And they've never had a 40th Anni blend before. So what am I missing here? Question

That's great as I do enjoy #27. So was this a one-time "when it's gone, it's gone" release or will there be another run? I did sign up for a one time alert on sp.

RR

Oz, do tell us how it is once you pop a tin. New offerings disappear so fast I have to just hear about it in reviews. Rolling Eyes

Well, speak of the Devil!

Opened the box, grabbed a tin, opened it, grabbed a flake, threw it in the pipe, with one match it lit, and it is every bit as good as aged Blackwoods Flake. Kept lit all the way through the bowl. No ketchup tin note (sorry Monbla), more of a nicely mellowed red Ginny. Sweet, a hint of cinnamon, like opening a fresh bag of sweet feed for the llamas. Lovely retrohale. Delightful citrus and caramel aftertaste. Think I'll go find a bigger bowled pipe and settle in for a while............

My hat's off to the folks in Kansas City. I must have more for the cellar, so please, no one buy any.Twisted Evil

Ya, and it was fortunate that I was at the computer right when the notification came in. I had a rather busy day at the brewery and normally wouldn't have been able to access e-mails until after lunch, by which time it would've gone oos again. Right place at the right time I guess.
