This 3 Clovers squat apple with horn stem is unusual for Paulo Becker. It was originally ordered with the horn stem by a long time customer of the Beckers having pipes from Fritz and Paulo.

After receiving it he smoked it twice and because he is a clencher he feared the stem may be too fragile so he offered it for sale. I grabbed it immediately since I don't clench and have never had a problem with any of my horn stemmed pipes.

The pipe smokes like a dream as I would expect any Becker pipe to smoke. I'm enjoying some Dunhill Dark Flake and keeping it smokey, regards.

Now that looks like something I would make. I have some deer antlers, that with an Osage Orange bowl and it would be similar. Any way to get more pictures of that one?

Beautiful pipe, Mr. Banjo.

I have one Becker, and it is my top smoker.

Enjoy!

When I get a chance I will give you more photos and dimensions and I believe an Osage Orange bowl with deer antler stem would be the bees knees Ozark. Regards.

Much appreciated! Thank goodness it wasn't a slight bent... Those are tough with 'organic materials'. A brass band, yes?

It's silver, and hallmarked, original to the pipe.

Ah, that pipe was a shiner in younger days. OK, I probably won't spring for a silver band..

But good to know nonetheless!

Mister Wizard, if you must have a band, why not eschew metals altogether and choose another horn one, albeit from a different animal? If you could score some dall ram, for instance, the contrast could be very cool. Or whatever, let your imagination run wild, like the animals that will make up your pipe!

I've been working on the stem off and on out of some deer antler. The idea of a silver band is appealing to me, and I do have access to silver. It seems to me that the idea of a metal band is more to keep the stummel from cracking over time than beautification. Both reasons are worthy in their own rite. I have some different ram's horns, and three buffalo horns as well to play with.

I will look into your suggestion, thanks!

Very Happy
