I read on another forum that Ed James (Ozark Southpaw) has passed, thoughts and condolences to his family. I will smoke the beautiful Morta pipe with black palm accent he made for me tonight in his memory, RIP Ed.

What? I'm dead?

At last.......................

Oh, another Ozark Wizard? (sigh). None of us left soon....

I will burn some Kinnikinnick in the peace pipe for his spirit. I have no Morta to use....

Be at peace Ed!

Nice pipe! Would you recommend a morta pipe? Is it just the texture, the age of the oak, or what that attracts one to morta?

I'm a Southpaw too, by the way...........

Morta is similar to Meerschaum in that you don't usually, I say usually because some Morta can give off flavors from the bog they came from but after 5 or so smokes it's gone, add to the flavor of the tobacco so one gets a pure sense of the flavor profile.

It is most always lighter than a pipe made from other traditional woods. Initially folks believed Morta was best for Latakia based tobacco but I find VA's and their mixes shine just as well in them.

Also like Meerschaum cake should not be allowed to buildup. Morta can smoke hot to the touch signaling you are puffing too quickly, slowing down it cools equally as fast and needs very little time before it's ready for another smoke, were you limited to two pipes to carry I'd make one a Morta due to all of the characteristics I've mentioned.

Wow! I have been through Poplar Bluff many times. Almost bought some forest acreage down that way. Very sad things going on these days. Chances are that those folks were the last of family members willing to take in that young man, and that is how he responded.

Very sad indeed.

Well, that was a roller coaster ride of emotions for a few moments for all the reasons outlined above.

Relieved the BoB OW Bob (too many Bobs) is still with us to regale tales of dodgy plumbing and getting beaten up by his livestock, but also saddened at the news of the passing of a fellow piper.

Next smoke to be dedicated.

Somebody oughta fix the headline on this. I got a bit dizzy when I saw it. Sorry to hear of the other Ozark having died. Good to hear ours is still puffing about in the mountains someplace.

Okay. I did a little editing. Do not want to lose anyone because of the shock of surprise.

Sadly, this story is gettin even more tragic.

This is all 2nd hand, but from a fellow pipe guy that is close to the investigation and has been in contact with some of Ed's family...

The step-grandson is in custody with a major bail set, 1st degree murder charges.

Also learned that Ed's wife is a person of interest/suspect sort of thing.

Fire investigators have found what looks to be 5 different areas that the fire was started.

This all makes me sick. Like it's one of those Autopsy Files reality show or something.

Yes, I read about those developments. Terrible works at foot these days, to be sure.

Though there are those that are more at ease that my demise is not apparent, rest assured it is not by my own volition. Much work yet to be done for this old goat......
