Well yesterday was certainly the day of the brain fart as I made a few incorrect statements citing Sabina Santos as being in Spain when she actually is in Portugal and I stated one of the colors of Morta was Blonde when I meant to say Golden, hopefully today will be better.

Another of my Morta pipes from Davorin of Croatia is this Golden Morta Scoop with Diamond shank and Ivory colored stem, keeping it smokey with Wessex Campaign.

Nice shape and style!! Do you have an idea what type of Morta the pipe was made from? Or region?? I would really like to get my hands on a piece of Morta in that color and make a pipe. My days of spending BIG bucks on a pipe is now behind me.

Lonecoyote, I purchased some jet black Morta carbon dated to over 8500 years old that I sent to Ed A. James as a gift along with payment for my pipe. I got it of eBay from Croatia.

Bog Oak, Morta, is found in Ireland, Greece, Croatia, Russia and several other bog laden places in the world. You can find Brown Morta blocks on eBay (the photos look to be Golden Morta so further photos might be needed to satisfy you) suitable for having a pipe made but be advised it may not have reached the ideal level of moisture that a Pipemaker would find ready to make a pipe with and it may need further drying time before it does, cheers.

Banjo, thanks for the info. I know where Bog Oak is basically found, I was interested in where the piece came from on the pipe your smoking. I will keep my eyes open on eBay for a brown color from Croatia. I'm in the middle of making a reverse Calabash Morta pipe. It's over 6,500 years old from Russia. The color is a dark black with some grayish tones. I purchased the piece off of eBay from a reputable seller I've dealt with prior. Once I'm back on my feet a bit I intend on finishing the pipe.
Have a great evening.

Lonecoyote, since Davorin made the pipe my guess would be Croatia.
