White Christmas was fantastic on the big screen. We enjoyed it so much that I came home and bought tickets to The Wizard of Oz, Ben Hur, and True Grit. It's a really beautiful theater in Alpharetta with leather recliners... that's the only way to go see a movie. Laughing Cool

There's no adequate way to describe this UK series, except that it's strange and quirky beyond belief as it follows the lives of various residents in the fictitious northern town of Royston Vasey.

Quite well done, but one has to pay close attention to the dialog and I'm grateful that this DVD set comes with optional sub-titles.

Cheers,

RR

After hitting the gym this morning the wife and I were in the mood for a little 'good guy kills all bad guys' movie.
Denzel answered the call perfectly.

Also, smoking a little Peter Stokkebye English Oriental Supreme while viewing.

Watched the Battle of Britain. Twice. Cracking film made in '69. Several 'goofs' with the kites if you know where to look too.

Been in an Elliot Ness mode recently so had to see this movie with Kevin Costner as Ness and Sean Connery. Interesting, but too much added drama.

Cheers,

3 'Thin Man' movies (the first is set around Christmas, but then went on to watch 'Shadow ottm' and TTM Goes Home'). I'll have to watch 'Another Thin Man' between now and New Year's (since it starts New Year's Eve)

Kong: Skull Island

Such a big King Kong fan from when I was a kid. Even had the steel lunchbox + thermos (still have the thermos somewhere). I don't care much for the movie format anymore in general, but to remake, or whatever, this movie was sacrosanct. Also don't care for action films. Still, this was on and convenient. Thought I'd shut it off after the first few minutes. The beginning was a little longwinded and unnecessary, but I got sucked into it. I liked that it played with the idea of giant creatures. I liked that it didn't play all that much with the Kong love interest. John C. Reilly's character was stupid funny, but I still found him funny enough and endearing.

6.5/10 (which is probably 5 marks higher than I expected)

Just finished re-watching the Fawlty Towers series for the umpteenth time. I view this at least once/yr and it never gets old. Still a hoot! John Cleese at his best, far surpassing anything he did on Monty Python. Just brilliant!

Plus there was a follow-up "Fawlty Towers" revisited special that I watched again as well. This gives a great history of the characters with lots of in-depth commentary. If you're a devotee of the series this is a must-watch.

Cheers,

RR

Backbeat is a great movie about the Beatles in Hamburg when they had Stuart Sutcliff on bass and Pete Best on drums. Very likely overly fictionalized but still gritty and interesting.

Cheers,

RR

Where Eagles Dare.

Richard Burton and Clint Eastwood working their magic in a war time classic. Superb.

Just re-watched this for the third or forth time. Ginger Baker was and is the quintessential drummer from that period, and I still groove on his playing. Always heard he was difficult personally, and this interview/documentary certainly supports that.

Recommended.

Cheers,

RR

Loreena McKennitt is one of my favorite artists and she really shines on this concert. I caught her live back around '09, and she performed many of these selections. It was one to remember!
