Got home in time to deliver a third baby llama. Like, just in time...... Didn't even finish my 'road to the house' pipe. Pulled up, got out, and went to check on the critters, and there she was, dangling out of her mom...

Helped her out, cleaned her up a bit, and took a 'selfie'.........

Hope.............. Survives.........

@Ted if I'm not mistaken females get to stay its the male offspring that end up on the table. At least that's how it was when I had a herd of dairy goats.

Oz that's a mighty fine sight to see. Glad you're home, now rest up some you've done more than your share brother! Oh and she's quite the sweet looking little gal. Hope she has a personality to match.

Jim, ummmm....^^^^^^^

These are not goats or cows. They're Llamas, and I know some people eat them. I would not be able to eat an animal of any kind I once hugged or bonded with. Maybe that's weird, but it's how I feel.
Well, in Vietnam one day you might have played fetch with a local dog and the next day it might have been your dinner!!

Believe me Ted I understand all to well. Our herd of goats was upto  10 females but we ended up with 13 boys we had to find homes for or eat. Growing up rural you do develop a certain detachment when it comes to these things. I'm also quite familiar with llama as eats. It is positively one of my favorite meats as jerky. The eating of animals you raised from babies is difficult and I certainly don't miss having to do it.

Oh and by the way we found homes for all 13 of those boys. They became valued members at petting zoo's. Lol

Gentlemen, please..............

Yes, I do cull the herd at times, and yes, males are top of the list, though the first born of this year, (Apollo), may already be spoken for. The second, Lulabelle, is female, and though the general rule would be to keep her for future breeding, her father Thor is the stud. This latest gal, has been named Tina by her future new owners. They came out today to see them all and fell for her straight away.

Now one of the breeding females might be culled. She lacks the lines I am looking for and is a bit temperamental. (The one who broke my ribs last shearing. I do not brook such behaviour.) I usually wait until I'm down to 50 pounds of llama meat in the freezer before I start sharpening tools for the job....

One more birthing to go....

This is Apollo, sitting on the far left of the frame:

This is Lulabelle:

OW
Thanks for posting more pictures. The one that broke your ribs if mine might make the top of the list for culling. But don't think I could eat the meat of an animal I've cared for prior. Would go up for trade.

My daughter has allot of property and has a well built pen for her two goats. I think I need to add on and get myself a Llama!! My granddaughter went " GAGA " when I showed her the pictures you posted. She's going to be a Veterinarian and an animal lover like me!!
