That was a labor of love. Must have taken a hell of a long time what with all  the filing and sanding.

That is a great piece of painstaking work. Terrific!

Now, jokingly, put a stem and a mouthpiece on it and put some tobacco in that bowl and smoke it!!! Laughing

To be honest...it’s only wood. What with band saws or a coping saw, grinders, drum sanders, etc., etc., etc. I can’t see how this would be all that hard...just more work than a turner is used to.

The execution is certainly nothing to discount, but I'd say the artistry lies in the conception. I mean, that piece actually looks like a splash! If I had attempted making it, I fear it would've ended up looking more like a crown than something liquid, even if finished perfectly. The splash droplets would be uniform and more evenly spaced, a beginner's mistake.

So who made it? Arky?

Very impressive Dave. What was the wood?

I concur.

I think these are the same carver. If so, he has done complete rooms like a bedroom...the bed is made and turned down...all wood. The curtains are carved solid wood. Everything. Life size. It’s all totally realistic. Amazing.

These are the VW’s...

Ok those carvings are insane! The splash though is above and beyond. Entirely too easy to turn out a crown rib roast rather than a fluid moment caught in time. Superb execution. I would bet you could do a very passable version if you chose to Dave.

OK...the guy’s name is “Livio de Marchi”.  Do yourself a favor and check out his work. Prepare to be amazed. The best way is to google his name or use the link and then open up the ‘images’ tab and start scrolling down through his stuff. Jaw dropping.

Very impressive indeed. He's like the Michelangelo of wood carvers, it seems. Strangely, I like the lady's panties and the man's trenchcoat as well as anything. Not sure what that signifies. Probably depravity.

I had a hard time getting my head around the apparent fact that he is a solo act and uses mostly a hammer and chisels. I suspected a CAD-type thing going on. You know, computers? Seems like he should have forearms like Popeye. Nevertheless I really like his stuff and would buy it, wallet permitting. Thanks for posting.

Agree, Rich. Well said.

OK...OK...

I googled it again and came up with the following. Guys, you all DO know how to use Google...right?

Guys name is Ken Bedel. But he’s not the only one doing this. There’s a guy named Danny Kamereth on ETSY that does the same.

Bowl on this thread is likely Cocobolo.

Yah, but it's so much easier for someone else to do the research and then just pass the information along, yes? Looking things up is like, like work or something!! lol!
