hey folks,

PAD has struck again!  A recent commission has finally been finished and is on its way.  The pipe was made by Roman Kovalev (Doctor's Pipes) out of Russia.  This will be my second Kovalev pipe, but my first made from Strawberry Wood.  Looking forward to receiving it. The attention to detail that Roman puts into his pieces is just phenomenal, and he is a stickler for precision engineering.  This is truly a work of art IMO...

Anyone here have any experience with Strawberry Wood pipes?  Curious to get your take on the smoking qualities.  I've heard that it is quite lightweight, and the ones I've seen have produced very expressive and interesting blasts.

Anyway, just thought I'd share.  I'm sure some will find this ugly as sin, but to me its a real looker.

That is a gorgeous pipe. I have a couple of strawberry woods and I honestly don’t find any big differences in smoking quality’s. The pipe’s themselves feel a little lighter then Briar of the same size. Also you can achieve a wonderful blast with strawberry, it may allow for a cooler smoke. I like them and I think you will like yours.

Thanks for the feedback Hiram. Who crafted your strawberry wood pipes? You don't see them too often. Any differences in the flavor profile vs. briar? How about heat resistance and burnout potential?

I'm really looking forward to this one. Would love to see a few photos of yours if you'd like to share. Very Happy

Here’s a quick pick.  Both pipe were made by Chris Askwith.  I find both burn pretty cool and may impart a little sweet taste to start but not much really.

I have Strawberrywood pipes by Paulo Becker, Ryan Quagliata and another who’s name escapes me at the moment, they are a bit lighter than a Briar of same proportions, break it in slowly for 5-7 smokes and once the chamber is carbonized it can be smoked as any Briar. Dr makes a wonderful pipe, I own one and it’s one I cherish as a fine smoker but man the one you’re getting is off the charts beautiful, enjoy it!

"Nubly" somehow seems to be an appropriate choice of descriptor Laughing
