I forgot to share this recent find and restoration, a hallmarked 1950 GBD 9242. I lucked into this GBD, which was advertised with one picture, and listed as "Vintage Smoking Pipe". The picture didn't show any logos or the hallmark, but I had a hunch it was a GBD 9242. The seller sent me some additional photos, confirming it was a 9242. While heavily used, it looked solid and I was able to strike a deal with the seller.

I finished the restoration last month, with full details on the Reborn Pipes site

At 65 grams, it is definitely a chubby Rhodesian!

You'd never know it was the same pipe!

Well done as always, Al!

Cool

Cheers,

RR

Iím still amazed how guys like you can see the potential in a pipe as rotten-looking as that and make it look almost brand new again, great work!

I was holding my breath as I completed the transaction with this seller. Once I knew it was indeed a hallmarked 9242, I knew it had a pretty strong value. It was setup as an auction, with one day left, but low bids ($20-couple dollars). I offered a BIN price, he bumped it $25 I agreed. He closed the original auction, set it up as a BIN at our agreed price. It took a number of Ebay messages with him to get this setup, he wasn't a frequent seller on Ebay. The other issue was that we were at a remote winery event with my car club buddies. I only had service in certain areas of the property, so I had to keep disappearing (from my buddies and wife) to complete the purchase. I sighed relief when it went thru. I definitely got lucky on this rare piece. 9242's are somewhat rare, but hallmarked ones even more so.
