I can't believe it's been five years.
Still seems like yesterday.
I've been watchin' too much coverage on CNN.
Still makes me cry.

I loved this house, not to mention my smoking deck balcony on the
upper floor with a spectacular view of the marsh and Lake Pontchartrain.

Hermit, That was your place?
I guess your're not living there as of now.
Dam shame, five years on and the area still hasn't recovered.
I spent alot of time in NOLA & Slidell many years ago. I keep meaning to go back.

I was just across the Chef and the Rigolets from Slidell in Venetian Isles.
I'm still upriver in Gonzales now, where I evacuated to five years ago.
Just over an hour away from the city - so near, but so far.

I had good insurance and (not without a fight) it paid off.
I was one of the "lucky" ones, but my life was still turned upside down.
So many people suffered far worse.
I guess I was just feelin' sorry for myself watching all
the horrible imagery on CNN today and yesterday.
My son's house was also destroyed (totally flooded).
He got some grants from "The Road Home" and will be moving into
his new house in Metairie (New Orleans suburb) in a week or two.
Sad fact of life; the poorer people were, the worse they got screwed.

I hear what you are saying Hermit,
Hats off to ya brother, I admire your outlook on this indeed.
I don't know what I'd do if it happened to me!

Glad you came out the other end ok!

Thanks for posting, Hermit. Blessings to all who suffered through the hours, days, weeks, months, and years that followed one of the worst natural disasters to occur on this continent.

Sorry, but I just have to add that the lack of response in the form of emergency services, such as water, food, supplies, and medical attention in the days following Katrina is just incomprehensible. I watched a special report/five year retro-spective recently, and the images brought real tears to my eyes. To simply call it a tragedy is a gross injustice to our fellow countrymen who were all but abandoned right here on American soil. A more jaw dropping outrage, I simply cannot imagine.

Looked like a wonderful house. I hope the area and all who lived there keep moving forward with their lives. It was a huge thing to overcome.
