PostSubject: For fellow aromatic smokers.....Exorcising a ghost   Sun Nov 01, 2009 10:13 am

For the others on this board who are aromatic smokers, I've found that if there's a ghost lurking in a pipe from a previously smoked aromatic tobacco (but also including Latakia and others), a few bowls of Lane's 1Q seems to do the trick in getting the pipe back to being "tasteless". If anyone has other suggestions, feel free to follow up to this.

I know 1Q is like the Miller High Life of tobaccos, but for me, it's my standby that I can most always find in most cities if I run out, so it qualifies as my "go to". However, I smoked a sampler of a cherry blend in one of my pipes and found it left a wicked ghost until a few smokes with 1Q and the pipe was back to being 'neutral'. I'm waiting for my tins of Dan Blue Note and Sweet Vanilla Honeydew to come in so I can test those out and I figure that if I hate them, 1Q will come to the rescue! sunny

I'll have to give it a try. I have several nice Kaywoodie estate pipes that the guy exclusively smoked "Mixture 79" in.....that crap leaves a ghost that a good soak in kerosene won't take out Exclamation

Everything I smoke in them tastes like soap and smells like the cheap perfume my grandmother used to wear.

Of course, remember that a good swab with a pipe cleaner dipped in Everclear will help. If I ever get that "soapy" taste, that's what I do, along with a follow up with a pipe cleaner dipped in brandy once the first treatment has dried. Finally, a bowl of 1Q and we're back to "neutral"!

I have a bottle pipe cleaner that I use on occasion, some sort of green stuff that works very well on most pipes. I have also used high-proof alcohol with good results. Most of the time, a ghost disappears after you smoke something different for a while, anyway.

However, my "Mixture 79" ghosted estate pipes will not respond to any of that.

I picked up an ounce of 1-Q For just that reason. Nutrality. It was the first tobacco I tryed as well and I liked it. Good for standby.
