We tend to go to federal parks with large lakes. Being in KS theres not many oceans. I'm more inclined to want to be away from ppl in a park w a good view of a lake or mountains... anything but a city.

Living in Oregon with all our rivers, lakes & of course the Pacific, we’re used to “live aboards” all over.  Land based too of course.  A lot of weekend or vacation homes are getting to be tiny houses built on a heavy trailer frame with wheels...drive it up, back it in, park in...and you’re home.  Nice.

When I lived up in Ketchikan a pretty fair number of the slips down in Bar Harbor were live aboards.

And of course for Sunday’s...

Cathy likes her house. So no camper here. But a lot of friends do it.

That's nice... gets too hot for me in the summer to purely tent camp.

My wife quilts, so she brings her projects to work on. I read, do all the outside work, take bike rides (specialized roubaix)... build fires...

Sounds like a lot of work, but theres little distractions and allows me to relax.

And maybe i have a stigma attatched with tent camping and compare it to my days in the army.
If i were single, i may have a tiny pod camper, and go out anywhere. We are relegated to campgrounds for the most part out here, not many spots the Govt doesn't own around bodies of water, etc.

Wow Stick, that looks like an amazing spot to set up camp.

IHT, there are few things that I won't let the army take the fun out of, and tent camping is one of them. If only I could get my wife excited about it lol

When I was young I scoffed at RV's.  I was a minimalist backpacker.

However, now that I'm a bit further up in the years and the wife isn't into primitive camping I find myself now owning an RV.  It's a bit minimalist itself being only 16'.

It's called an Airstream Bambi.  This shot was taken in Townsend Tennessee at the foot of the Smokies:

At one time I envisioned owning a RV, prolly a smallish one. Back in '04 I rented a mid-sized RV for a lost weekend at the
annual Oysterfest celebration in Shelton, WA with a bunch of W. Washington herfers I was involved with when I was a big cigar guy. Anyway,
the RV was something like 24' or 28' long and I managed to get it there and back but it was a challenge at times!

Now that I'm only sighted in one eye and have no depth perception there's no way I'd undertake to drive a vehicle like that.
And yes I do realize there are those Mercedes Benz camper vans with a shorter wheelbase. I could probably handle that but the cost is stupid expensive.

Cheers,

RR

There's a young couple + dog on youtube that live in a 13ft Scamp and move their operation ever 14 days per BLM rules. They've made some slight modifications, like adding a collapsible wood stove unit. Their situation is very appetizing. I've been a backpacker most of my adult life, and as much as I love the idea of having everything you need on your back, aging alters things.

Oregon...oh, Oregon. I had such a splendid time there for a week...until I got into some Poison Oak that took me two months and various steroid salves to rid. I worked in a state park that was overran with Poison Ivy, and I never got it once. Snubbed my nose at the idea of Poison Oak, but it taught me a harsh lesson.

On a short summer vacation, crashed my bicycle in the rain. Luckily was only about a mile from the camper.
I guess video files aren't supported?
Caught it on my GoPro...

Anyway, kinda ruined the last 4 days of camping. Just got the bike back after only $150 in repair, was worried it'd be way more since i jacked up my shifter/brake levers. Got new bar tape out of it, as my white tape was blood soaked.

Goin camping again next weekend, gotta get some riding in, don't care the weather.

The wife and I have been full time campers since October, 2019. We have a RV spot in Thayne, WY for our north base. Our travels took us south to AZ then east along the border to the gulf states and back north. The covid thing struck and put a bit of a damper on things. Last month we bought a small spot in Mohave Valley, AZ for a winter base.

2018 Fuzion Toy Hauler and Ford F-350 to lug it around with.

Nice.
The wife and i always talk about full-timing.
She just sent me a link to a Winnebego Vista we like but only made that floorplan for 2 yrs.

Sadly, we had a chance to buy that model brand new a yr after we got this 5th wheel. Now we are kicking ourselves, as that new price is cheaper than what 5 yr old class a's are asking for now.

I tented camped since I was a kid. Then I introduced my wife to camping in 2000. She decided in late 2015 she was too old to sleep close to the anymore. She found a camper she liked in the spring of 2016. We bought a 2013 Flagstaff hw27sc pop-up. We drug that thing all over Tennessee, Kentucky, and Arkansas.

We got tired of the labor-intensive setup of the popup. So a month ago we traded it in for a 2021 rock wood geo pro g19rb.

We went to Nathan Bedford Forrest state park in Tennessee this weekend. It has become one of her favorite places to go. Plus, it's only about 70 miles one way. Easy drive too. So here's a few of our/her new camper and spot.
